Cat flap

I have had my cat for years and she has always been indoors.
We have acquired a new cat as well who turned up and chose us. ❤️
This cat is used to being outside and loves it so obviously we can't keep her indoors.
I have never had a cat flap before. I bought one and it's in the door now. I really thought that a microchip cat flap would only let the microchip cat in question in and out. But not the other cat. No, now know that it lets any cat out. I didn't buy the right one. I really thought that was how all microchip cat flaps worked
Can't believe I've done this ☹️

If I get the different type of cat flap would it fit, bearing in mind that we've already put this one in?
Are they all the same size?

You need a dual scan one from sure flap. Not cheap but fits in the same hole. Then you can program it to let which cats can open it from inside.

A microchip cat flap should only let cats that are programmed in through, but if it only locks on the way in, crafty buggers can get in by hooking a claw round the edge to lift the flap and slide under it.

The other way they bypass the system is that if your cat sits on the inside it unlocks the flap and lets the outside interloper in.

But sadly they aren't all the same size, some are, some aren't.

If its Sureflap, they're quite helpful so will be able to tell you if another one would do what you need. They might even do an exchange if the one you bought is recent and still in new condition.

Have you tried programming it so the first cat is “locked in” but the second cat has free access to come and go? I think you can do this on ours, but can’t be sure as we only have one cat.

Yes I think it's this one I needed 🤦

I truly thought they were all like that 🤦

So if I get one of these it won't be a problem with the hole that's already cut in the door?

Just can't believe I didn't realise this till it was all fitted!

So here are the dimensions on the one I've already got

So it's different

Can I still take the cat flap I've got out and fit the new one in? Is it workable?

I'm a bit stressed about the whole thing now

What make is the current one? All you can do is order it and return if you need to. It looks like the sure flap is smaller. You can buy surrounds from sure flap to cover up any gaps. I'll try and load a pic.

The round surround covers up any gaps I think.

We’ve had a number of cat flaps over the years, some microchip, some not. One thing that has always been an issue on all of them is that occasionally, they don’t fully close. Maybe the cat came through very slowly so the swing of the flap was very slow or maybe it was a windy day. Factor that in too.
