Missing outdoor cat not home for three nights, feeling helpless

My car has gone missing and I’m so sad.
i know it’s a risk having outdoor cats. He is the nicest natured little thing, I got him and his brother together and they have been nothing but a delight.
He has not come home now for three nights, and is usually the one reminding me of meal times. He is quite vocal.
Ive put up posters locally, informed everyone I can in neighbouring streets, informed vets and chipping company and pet search, also any local groups on Facebook.
Walked round neighbourhood shaking crunchies, and shouting outside closed garage doors.
Am feeling so sad and helpless.🙁

Is he neutered? Have any neighbours gone away? (One of mine got shut in like that.) Check sheds too.

HughManity · 14/08/2026 10:56

They usually come back. Been there though so I know how bad the worry is. Flowers

Bitzee · 14/08/2026 10:57

3 nights isn’t very long, mine was missing for a week once. Hopefully he’ll come home soon. If you haven’t seen any signs of him having been run over locally or had any calls from vets who’ve had him brought in and scanned his chip then there’s every reason to think he’s ok and just having a prolonged adventure 🤞🤞🤞

Scrabsqueak · 14/08/2026 12:14

Yes, he’s neutered and chipped.
I live in a flat, so there are no sheds in gardens round here, or very few. I have called his name outside any garages in nearby area this morning when there was less traffic so I could hear if he miaowed.
i do tell myself no news is good news, but he is such a home buddy, usually only out for a couple of hours at a time.
I am still hopeful though🤞🏻🤞🏻

How old is he? Young cats often have a stage of staying out. I would knock on neighbours doors and ask as that’s how my sister found her cat once, as it was locked in their shed

Bitzee · 14/08/2026 13:30

Also OP I think the recent hot weather has the tendency to mess with cats routines. I’ve noticed my youngster is asleep all day at the mo and prowling about at night whereas it used to be the opposite. He was gone until the early hours last night and didn’t come home for dinner which is very unlike him.

Does he have a collar with a tag? Ours, after a week of his adventures, broke into a neighbours house in the middle of the night, gave them an awful fright, and then refused to leave so they called us to complain/collect him 🤣

BitCoinBillionaire · 14/08/2026 13:35

Oh he will be back! Guaranteed. It’ll be the weather. Give it a few more days and you’ll see!

CalmerScen · 14/08/2026 13:57

If it’s any consolation, my cat’s routine has changed in the hot weather (he wears a tracker so I spy on what he gets up too!)
Is your cat fairly young? Mine has just turned 2, and I think a combination on being young and the hot days means he’s mixed up his usual routines a bit. Do you know his usual stomping grounds? Could you go slightly beyond those, in case the balmy evenings have made him bold? Here’s hoping he wanders in very soon like nothing has happened

LivingForRedWine · 14/08/2026 14:26

Oh OP I feel for you. This happened to me a few years ago. One of mine went missing for 5 days it was horrible! He did eventually come home shouting for food.

I ended up getting my two trackers so I wouldn't be so worried if it happened again.

He does sometimes still go missing for a day or so now but the tracker just gives me peace of mind that he is ok and still moving around.

I hope yours comes home soon. Like others have said, the weather will not have helped.

Whosthetabbynow · 14/08/2026 14:32

It’s the weather OP. Bet he’s around somewhere x

Scrabsqueak · 14/08/2026 15:29

Oh, thank you all so much for giving me hope! He is 5, so not a kitten any more. Am in Scotland, so not such drastic weather here. I tried to get my cats to wear collars but they jump through bushes etc and pull them off plus I get worried they would get caught, even the self opening ones can seem a bit scary.
I really don’t know how far he might go, I know he travels, but we live in a city, with lots of gardens and parks, he could go miles!

Sending you all good wishes.
It’s such a hard thing to live through, but really they do turn up, much more often than not.

nomorekitchenislandsplease · 14/08/2026 18:47

So sorry OP. They very often turn up sometimes after a long period. My friends cat was 'rescued' by a well intentioned neighbour who was eventually told he had a home already and was returned safe and well.

SparklyBlueDress · 14/08/2026 20:51

Mine came home after 4 nights away this evening. He was just sat into the house when I got home from work. I had put a note through neighbours doors hoping they’d check sheds and garages. I don’t really want to let him out again but I know he’ll be miserable kept in. Fingers crossed yours does the same.

Free missing pet posters
If you need more posters these are free which is fantastic. Put the litter tray and bedding outside so he can smell it. 🤞 Hopefully noisily asking for breakfast soon.

No sign yet. I’ve been notified of a few possible sitings a couple of days ago but not my cat.
Raining here now, not sure if that makes it better or worse.
Am so sad.

Hang in there. The rain may bring him home 🙏

BurntBroccoli · Yesterday 19:30

Mine has gone missing too. Day 2 here and usually he’s hanging around all day waiting for his food!

So worrying isn’t it? Like others have said I’m just hoping it’s the weather.

Mine went missing a few weeks ago while we were on holiday. He was found via Facebook, the local Spotted site rather than a specific missing pets one. He was in an overgrown area of a big garden. We had done posters, knocked on doors etc but he had crossed a main road and I had assumed he wouldn’t do that. So my tips are to post on every local
soc media site you can, and widen your search area. I know it’s heartbreaking and send lots of sympathy
