I am so broken

Last night a neighbour knocked on my door to let me know my beautiful Frida had been clipped by a car. She was alive when I got to her, but by the time we’d got home and I’d put shoes on to head to the emergency vets she’d gone. It’s only been a few months since we lost our other girl, though that was a natural end of life. I don’t know what to do with myself. I’ve lost plenty of other animals in my life, but Frida was my heart and soul. I hated her going outside, but she was so miserable being contained. I cant help feeling that it’s my fault for giving in. And if hadn’t brought in a new kitten so quickly, she’d have already been in and on my bed, and not out past 9.00.
I know this overwhelming grief will pass, but right now I don’t see how I can ever stop crying.

And you lost your other cat, Polly, last week? Oh you poor thing

EnglishRose26 · 11/08/2026 07:08

I am so sorry op. It will get easier with time. Take a day or two off and be kind to yourself this week.

mimiasovitch · 11/08/2026 07:25

Thank you. I needed to write it out somewhere. I just don’t know what to do with myself.

So sorry op 💐

I am so sorry. I lost my boy cat recently to a car so I know how bereft you must feel. And losing your other cat as well, it feels overwhelming. Did I read right that you have a kitten? If so I hope they give you some comfort - I know it feels like it won’t get better but as others said it gets a little easier as time goes on xx

mimiasovitch · 11/08/2026 13:36

@Poppytimeyes, we have a 13 week old kitten. He’s the most affectionate little thing, and last night we let him loose in the house rather than shutting him in the spare room as, well, no need. He spent the entire night under my chin. Animals just know when we need them.

They really do. We have 16 week old kittens we adopted recently after losing our cat, as companions for our remaining girl cat. They have really helped the grieving process, not that they can be replaced but to give a positive focus. How sweet your kitten knew just what you needed

darkoftheloon · 11/08/2026 14:49

That is a lot to have to cope with OP. I would build a catio for the kitten so that he can go outside risk free when he is old enough.

spiderlight · 11/08/2026 15:40

I'm so very sorry.

Igmum · 11/08/2026 16:07

So so sorry Mimia, what terrible losses. Sending love to you all ❤️🫂

timtamsarebetterthanpenguins · 11/08/2026 16:30

I'm so sorry Flowers

However, please don't blame yourself. We lost our youngest to a car accident in March and it was horrendous getting that call, but he needed to be out for his own sanity and it sounds like your Frida was the same. Be kind to yourself.

Fernticket · 11/08/2026 16:33

So sorry to hear your bad news.
I have lost a cat on the road and like yours she was so unhappy being contained that I felt I had no choice but to let her out. Sending you hugs.

cartreffi · 11/08/2026 19:57

I am also so sorry. Please stop feeling guilty, you let your cat have the life they wanted. I lost my cat last Wednesday and am also heartbroken, so I am with you xx

Pudmyboy · 11/08/2026 23:14

So sorry for your double loss, as others have said, your beloved Frida had the life she wanted, and you were there with her at the end, though I know that is a small consolation. 💐

Breadcat24 · 12/08/2026 12:18

@mimiasovitch So sorry
