Best litter & tray set up for indoor cat

I’m sure this has been done to death but please can I have your recommendations for the optimum litter and litter tray set up for an indoor female cat.
she currently has a basic stainless steel litter tray (which I quite like for ease of cleaning) and non clumping clay litter because that’s what she came with.
My main priority is the smell, second priority is ease of cleaning, third is cost.
She makes quite a mess digging and kicking the litter out.

I have an indoor female cat and bought this from Amazon to put the tray in, plus a mat underneath to stop the litter tracking everywhere. Mine seems to like Breeder Select cat litter, it seems pretty good at absorbing any smells and isn’t as messy as the clay litter.

I have a big plastic tray with a full cover and use super clumping lit as it’s easier to remove small clumps daily and fully empty and wash once a week

I bought a £7 large lidded storage box from Poundland and cut a hole in the lid so the smell and tracking are minimised and I swear by wood pellets but only if you wet them first

I was an avid non clumping litter user for nearly a decade with my two. I got a few bags of a fine grain clumping litter and it was a game changer. The couple of bags lasted me weeks not days, didnt smell at all and although slightly more mess, i was sold. However that brand was VERY expensive and I went on the hunt for a cheaper alternative. Best one I could find and one im happy with is the amazon brand white extra clumping litter. Great stuff!

I like the idea of wood or paper pellets. It seems madness to me to be dragging a bag of stones in and out of my house every week 😆
ideally I’d prefer her to go outside but currently over ruled by the rest of my family.

I also keep getting sucked into the adverts on Facebook for the ‘swirling’ litters. Has anyone tried them?
