Hard lump on Mithril’s head.

It seems to have come up really quickly. It doesn’t seem to be bothering him. And he’s completely his usual self. He’s not keen to let me press it but other than that shows no signs of pain or illness. He’s going to the vet on Monday.

How big is it and is it in the side tissue or agai st the skull? Does it feel hot to the touch? If its tender and he's not keen on you touching it then an abscess seems likely. One of ours has a cyst under her chin but it's painless and feels like a pea under her skin.

It’s pretty large. Feels like a bony lump. He’s an old man now but still very happy. I saw him two weeks ago when I went to drop Penelope at the cattery and my parents collected him at the same time. I’m sure it wasn’t there then. The cattery would have probably found it

My cat was 15 and she had this lump. It was some sort of cyst. It would sort of move around a bit when you pressed on it. Every now and then it would pop and then grow back. Vet said it wasn’t cancerous and so just to leave it as it didn’t bother her. It was on the back of her neck.

Good call. It does have the symptoms of a cyst, though of course not guaranteed. At Mithril's age I think it would be a case of leaving it alone or maybe draining it now & again, as the risk of an op to remove it wouldn't be worth it as he's getting on a bit.

Yes, I think it might me a cyst. It’s definitely not an abcess. Due to his age my parents won’t be wanting anything invasive done, which I fully agree with. Particularly as it isn’t bothering him. He’s actually the best I’ve seen him in a while!

Could it be a bee sting? Our garden fox had a head lump appear suddenly, and I was going to call the Fox Project. Neighbour’s cat had had the same the previous year , diagnosed as a sting, bee or wasp, so she advised me to wait, and sure enough it disappeared over a couple of days

Oo could well be. They have a big hotel very close to where he likes to sit and lollop around. He’s been out a lot during the warm weather.

He’s certainly daft enough to play with bees or wasps!

Good chance the vet may try to aspirate it to see if there's any fluid in it or if it's solid. I know that could be done to Girlcat if absolutely necessary, with Tobias it would be completely impossible without a full GA.

I think he’d probably be ok if held. Though my parents completely treat him
with kid gloves, which he doesn’t need. 🤣

The vet isn’t sure what it is, but thinks it’s a bony lump. She’s going to see him again in 2 weeks. He could have an X ray but due to his age we don’t want to give him
an anesthetic for something that’s not bothering him. He is an angel at getting in to his Carrier. But omg the claw clipping was a huge drama!

But the current plan is to leave well alone. Which I agree with, he’s actually better than I’ve seen in him in ages.

They are ok, it’s not bothering him. And he’s happy In himself.
