meloxidyl for cough

My cat has a cough and the vet prescribed meloxidyl for cats. However I've looked at the bottle and it's an NSAID for post operation pain or musculoskeletal pain. Neither of which he has as far as I know. To be fair my husband just said the vet said she didn't know what was causing the cough. She said:

  • it could be one of things he is vaccinated for, because even though he is vaccinated apparently you can still get those illnesses but lesser
-something wrong with his heart
  • Asthma

She only took his temp and listened to heart.
I'm going to call the vet tomorrow to see what they say. But i am concerned they haven't done the right thing 😕

Meloxicam is one of the few anti-inflammatoires approved for cats. Most uses are technically off label. If they think your cat needs an NSAID, options are limited.
