Hi everyone,
We have taken on the care of a cat who had been straying in our area for some months but set up camp in our garden for the last few weeks. With the help of cats protection he's now neutered, flea and wormed, checked for FIV, microchipped and released back into our garden with a clean bill of health.
We have one female cat already (a previous stray herself and ~18 months older than him), they have both come across each other in the garden, and she seems curious about him but hisses if she feels he is too close, he just sits looking at her and will move a bit further away (not run off) when she hisses.
He wants to come into the house and we would like this too, but how do we help our female cat adjust to this? she is 'on guard' at the door almost constantly to make sure he doesn't come in and when he has wandered in she has chased him off.
We are open plan so cannot separate off any areas and the bedrooms/bathrooms are in constant use by children so we can't use those rooms either as doors would not remain shut.
Any advice? He is such a sweet boy who just wants a warm loving home which we are trying to give him
