Old cat suddenly sleeping under bed - worried

Old cat - 17. Seems ok - still eating and washing etc. however in the last week she has suddenly started scratching on the door and then when let in, going to sleep under our bed.

This is new behaviour - historically she has slept in the kids bedrooms…I guess my worry is - could this be something like she knows her days are numbered and wants to stay close by in case she dies ? :(

When I mean sleeping under the bed - I mean only overnight when I’m in the bed- not during the day.

This happening is a bit of a worry IMO. At this age many of them do start to go downhill. 3 of my cats did the same thing when they were getting close to going over the rainbow bridge... (And they were all 17-18 years old...)

Started hiding away. In the hall cupboard, under the bed in the spare room, and anywhere where they didn't have to engage with us. Once this sort of behaviour started they all lasted 2-4 months.......... 😢

I hope it's as simple as your cat just fancying some privacy/some cool temperatures, but do keep an eye on her...

Maybe take her to the vet for a checkover...

@LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway - it’s only at nighttime - during the day she is on peoples knees and in the garden - as interactive as ever. It’s not what I would call hiding as it’s only between 11pm and 7am.

Maybe it’s quieter under your bed and she just wants to be away from the kids at night?

@UnaGatita yes I hope so. 🤞 guess it’s just got me thinking with her being old….
