2 kittens! One is being spicy.

Had a kitten reserved since birth. Visited multiple times. Put deposit down 6 weeks ago. Met mum cat and spoke to owner of dad (both pedigree)

Today was the big day to collect her and breeder rings to say that the other female in the litter was also supposed to be collected this morning but the owner cancelled her reservation for the kitten due to family circumstances. She then asked me if I would want the 2nd kitten too (minus the deposit the other woman paid and a further discount as its nice for 2 to go together)

I was like like 'uhhhhh?!' But DH straight away was like 'yes!'

So I said yes and am now home and freaking out big time!

Also the suprise cat is so loving and affectionate but the OC is hissing at everything and everyone! Shes never done that before when we have seen her and I've never experienced that from any other kitten, is it normal, will she relax? I know everything is scary and new right now but her sister is taking it in her stride and OC cat isn't acting scared, shes actually being very bold but hissy!

It’s very early days, I’m sure she’ll improve. Have you got stuff like a feliway plug in, cat nip toys, etc? Can they have dreamies that young? Bribe the grumpy one!

She has a blanket and toy with mums smell on and we tried a treat but she isn't that interested. She isn't really hiding away, she is trotting round and looking at us and exploring the bed/couch but if we try to pick her up she is hissing.
We seperated the sisters for a bit (not intentionally just different people playing with each one) and when we put them back together surprise kitten tried to groom OC and OC was hissing at her!

Shes not being shy or anything, she is almost squaring up to us. DD is finding her attitude hilarious (they are well suited) but I have to admit I am a little more worried for her long term temperament

The hissing and squaring up is a fear behaviour, she is acting like everything is a threat. Give her time and space to settle in and realise there is no threat.

It's day 1, give her a chance

I'm honestly not pushing her, I know its only day one. I was just hoping for someone to tell me that they had the same thing and now their kitten is as sweet as pie etc.

Are you keeping the kittens to one quiet room? How are you managing the introduction to your home?

Yeah I had three abs one was like this. He’s now the one that is superglued to my side while one of the others is now Miss Hissy boots.

Most of my rescue cats did that. They have been taken from mum and put in a strange house. Give the baby some time to settle and lots of love.

It will be fine but leave them alone and don’t keep trying to pick them up / touch them until they have settled . What breed are they ?

Is she orange by any chance? 😁 Either way my cat was like that when I first got him. He was mostly really loving, but was also a little sod and used to like to hide behind doors and pounce and tear your ankles to shreds when you walked past. He was my best ever cat. It’ll be fine op

When our kittens left their mum to go to new homes two of them hid under sofas for a week! One of the new buyers wanted to bring one back ! It’s a huge shock - they will both settle x

My hissy kitty is now my absolute angel (his brother not so much!)

I adopted a cat when she was a year old, for months and months she was growling, hiding on the top of the cupboards, all sorts.

These are like babies, taken away from mum and now in a strange house, so they're just finding their feet.

@CertifiedClownGirl you can try feliway plugins in the room(s) the kittens are in, that might help Little Miss Hiss to relax a little too

She sounds like she has character which is fab. Let her settle. Mine took until day 7 to purr but once she did she’s been a bagpuss since

My cat is hissy but only when she’s scared. Shes a big softie underneath.
