Cat being sick overnight

Can anyone reassure an anxious cat lady? Our cat has been sick overnight four nights out of five this week. I did an online consult with the insurance vet yesterday who diagnosed gastritis and said to give him probiotics and hairball paste. He was sick again overnight/this morning so I have him booked in with our vet at 6pm.

He’s fine in himself, no reduced appetite or changes in behaviour. I am WILDLY anxious because our last cat turned out to have lymphoma when she was puking but no other symptoms, and it took months of back and forth to the vet until she was diagnosed and then pts.

Cat is three and a half, tax attached.

Foamy saliva can be down to hunger.

I took away his leftover food at bedtime as I was worried it could make him sick if he ate during the night. It’s so hard to know what to do for the best and (I know) that’s what ChatGPT said to do.

I think the best plan is to get to Tuesday however we can, then he’s booked in for the dental. Fingers, toes, paws crossed that solves the vomiting. Now I think back I had said to DP a few times that he hadn’t finished all his food (he doesn’t tend to eat it all at once, but usually has by morning) and we’d just put it down to it being hot weather - I guess it will have been his teeth. The vet made me look at them and they were like a manky old tramp’s teeth. I thought they were checked annually at boosters but maybe it was only his gums she looked at - she was definitely in his mouth. Yesterday’s vet wasn’t our usual one although same surgery.

We had to swap to set meals for ours as one of them would just eat himself sick if left to his own devices. He's lost a lot of weight because of it but it's also reduced the amount of sick we've come downstairs to!

He’s eaten all his biscuits and is having a seat on the garden furniture. I’ve still not given him the gabepantin, it’s freaking me out a bit the idea of him being sedated. Does he need to be kept in while he’s on it does anyone know?

Oh the poor thing. Yes I would keep him in if he’s sedated. Only reason is he could fall or something or could be a sitting target for another cat waiting to fight him and if he’s sedated he won’t be up for a fight.

Dental work is usually scraping of plaque and maybe removal of teeth, at least that’s what the vet did to my cat, clean, remove plaque and remove one tooth. She was much happier after it though. Ate better.

He’s had the gabapentin - seems fine but I absolutely hate the idea of it making him slow and wobbly. I have atypical facial pain/neuralgia and the consultant I was under offered a similar drug - Amy-something-line - but said it would be a last resort as it could make me into a zombie. I opted just to live with the pain and have three monthly dental checkups.

Our cat started being sick a few times the last week, we think it was leaving wet food out for too long. Apparently you should only leave it out for 1-2 hours max and obviously it's been so hot recently as well. I've started taking the wet food away (he always has access to biscuits, apparently these are fine for 24 hours) after 1 hour and since then no more sick. Might be worth a try? I set a timer on my phone so I don't forget.

I came upon this in my (endless) googling too. It sounds daft but I had no idea - so stupid because there’s no way I would eat tuna or chicken that had been sat out for a few hours! Our previous cat cleared her plates immediately, wet and dry, whereas Louie is much more of a grazer and often finishes his dinner through the night. He has Untamed so I suspect less in the way of preservatives than some. No more late night chicken dinners for him! I’m off work at the moment (lecturer so summer hols) and have been giving him micro meals of wet food the last couple of days.

Mine was sick quite a lot when I first got him and then I worked out he was sick if he has dry food first in the morning if he has wet food first he’s fine

my old cat would throw up if I offered the wrong type of food, another cat looked at him funny or the wind blew in the wrong direction. Again, nothing wrong but he was just a sicky cat

My siamese boy tried licking banana and is adament that HE MUST drink my tea. No to that, Siamese on caffeine would not be good.

Girlcat does the odd foamy clear vomit, usually with a couple of shreds of grass in it. Tends to be a warning that there's going to be a mahoosive hairball any day soon.

No sick overnight - but he has had runny poo in the litter tray which I assume is the Gabepentin. He’s bright and fine in himself, I set up a timed feeder with biscuits to open at 5am in case the sick had been to do with a long period without food.

Thank you all for keeping me company here, I get really anxious after what happened with our last cat and I’m finding this very difficult.
