We have two sisters and one had to be put to sleep today. They are 19 years old. Am not sure what to do to help the cat adjust without her sister.

It just happened this morning and she’s eating and drinking and I tried to see if she wanted to cuddle up in bed but shes not interested.

Our cat who was put to sleep today was blind so they were both downstairs with all their beds, food and litter tray in one room to make it easier for her.

We had to keep doors closed so she didn’t get lost and now our cat has the run of house again.

It’s a sad day and I want to try and make sure she’s happy and secure.

There isn't much you can do other than be there physically when they want comfort and give them space when they don't. Maybe extra treats and some new toys to provide replacement entertainment.

I had a bonded trio and lost one suddenly when they were 11. One got very clingy for a while but the other took herself off to hide in dark corners for a few days.

Their routines and habits changed a lot in the weeks after their brothers death - they started asking for their main meal earlier in the day and sleeping in different spots. Almost like they didn't want to continue the old routines without him. They also refused to eat the same food they'd been happy with for years and I had to swap everything around.

There was also some personality changes - it was always the girl as the dominant cat, but once their brother died the other boy started challenging her position for a few months. He's mostly stopped now and accepted her as boss again, but he no longer lets her kick him out of his favorite sleeping spot.
