Cat with fleas

My long long haired cat has fleas for the first time and I’m horrified as have never had a cat with fleas before.

Can anyone recommend the best and strongest (but safe obviously) treatment I can use please? I will definitely be bathing him altho know he will hate it and I’ll get scratched . Presume I need spot treatment and flea collars?

I get flea treatment from the vet. Ive never used a flea collar

I rang the vet and had to book a consultation in order to get flea treatment so have ordered Advantage online as it has the best reviews

Go with advantage, to go through the vets mine wanted £60 consultation lol advantage works no need for a vet appointment

As my cats have an annual visit to the vet for boosters/vet check I can order flea treatment and collect it when needed

Indorex spray is supposed to be good for treating the house, carpets, etc

My short hair had a flea infestation this year for the first time in her 12 years of life.. I tried all the vets ones, did all the recommendations and nothing bloody worked it was awful. I can't bathe her as she is half feral as it is..anyway, I tried flea treatment from Itch, I've never heard of them before but after one application there's no flea dirt anywhere and she's not longer scratching. She's looking much more like her old self. I can't recommend them enough!

Itch flea treatment has the same ingredients as Frontline plus. It doesnt always work effectively so its good that it worked for your cat @FckThisShit

my cat was shut in the kitchen last night and he hasn’t scratched yet this morning. I have lots of flea bombs arriving today for the rest of the house. I feel so disgusted by the fleas. He will certainly be receiving regular treatments from here on!

Do not bathe your cat. She will hate it and it is ineffective.

get a proper treatment from the vet. Mine have Frontline drop on. It’s often cheaper to get a scrip with repeats from the vet and order online.

spray the house thoroughly with Indorex.

no need to be appalled. It’s perfectly normal. Issues only arise really when left untreated or inadequately treated with quack preparations.

then you will end up with a flea infestation and a cat with painful sores from dermatitis.

OTC treatment doesn’t normally work if there’s already an active infestation - you need to go to the vets and get a prescription.
