Cat sitter experience

6 months ago we adopted our first cat and we recently went on holiday for 2 weeks (holiday had been booked for ages). I used a pet sitter recommended by a friend for x2 visits per day.

The cat sitter was very clear that she didn’t guarantee a time of visitation but morning visits were generally before 12 and evening visits after 4pm. I noticed on our doorbell camera that sometimes she didn’t turn up until 2pm or 3pm and then came back again at 6pm. This only happened on 5-6 occasions and otherwise she was pretty reliable and always turned up twice each day.

We do have an automatic pet food dispenser which provides a couple of snacks early morning and late evening so I wasn’t too worried but would you find these visit times unacceptable? I was a bit annoyed and worried when she sometimes didn’t turn up until mid afternoon.

On the plus side my cat loved her and seemed very happy. From your experiences is this the norm or should I look for a new sitter next time?

Not the norm for mine. I am soppy so I want her to come morning and evening to space out the time the cats get some company. It’s not just about the food (although I think yours left too long between meals overnight).

She’s not coming when she was supposed to. Tell her that. You can try her once more if you don’t have another sitter locally. Maybe now she knows you have the Ring she’ll be more inclined to stick to the agreed times.

But 5-6 occasions is nearly half the days! I’d be pissed off and look for someone else, if it were me, and tell her why.

Mine comes three times and stays 30 mins each time. She’s completely trustworthy and reliable and let’s face it they’re not cheap either.

No I wouldn’t be happy with that at all. That’s a long time between the evening visit and the next day. If I’m away for a day or 2 my cat is by himself. But with food in timer every 12ish hours. I tried a sitter one and never again, I couldn’t see the point as he won’t play or come up to someone for a fuss within a 30min visit. For longer stays he goes to a cattery…as they call it a cat hotel 😆 but he has more consistent people around, dedicated time for him and it is £20 a day inc food and my sitter for x2 30min visits was £30 a day
