Automatic feeders

Does anyone use one of these? Can your cat break into it? We’re away at a gig in another city on Saturday and will be back late. It’s probably overkill to ask someone to come in and give Louie his dinner, but it’s a longer spell than he’d usually have on his own if we’re both in work, so I dug ours out. We got it for our last cat and she was scared of it so it’s been gathering dust in a cupboard since.

We did a few trial runs tonight with a couple of Dreamies in each compartment to check he recognised it as a feeding station, and now Louie is like a cat possessed. He’s tried to get into it, had it flipped upside down, and now is sitting guarding it. Usually at this time of night he would be out on important business, but he’s not budging.

There are two lonely Dreamies in it which will appear at 4am. I’m not sure it’s worth his trouble tbh. Treats are kept in a secure box in this house as he will claw the bags open, eat the lot, then be sick.

(he has a water fountain, litter trays, and we will be leaving just after lunch, home about 1am, there is nothing coming over him being without a visit.)

I’d just leave him some extra biscuits out. But if the automatic feeder keeps him busy waiting for the food just leave him with it. You could set it to give out more smaller meals

That’s plan B - but he’s fussy if anything is remotely “stale” and we’re forever throwing out the final third of packets of things. You’d never guess he’d been a stray kitten brought up on a diet of spiders and dust (probably) 🤷🏻‍♀️
