My mum asked if Penelope has half a lik e lix or a whole one? Err what?!! AIBU to think that giving a cat only half, is seriously neglectful. Their cat only gets half. Poor boy. I have pointed out he’s 15 and he can have what he likes!

YABU, it’s strange not ‘seriously neglectful’. The cat would agree with you though

Overtheatlantic · 05/06/2026 12:28

Wow. It would never occur to me to give Lady Madam only half. It’s truly monstrous behaviour.

tiramisugelato · 05/06/2026 12:32

My cats get one split between them 😂

Iheartmysmart · 05/06/2026 12:33

Oh blimey, I only give Sid a third at a time. Mainly because she’s decided that every time I go into the kitchen for something to eat or drink, she also has to have something. Otherwise she glares at me until I give in. Which is fair enough. But it seems I’m in the kitchen quite a lot and the lick-e-lix habit was getting expensive so she only has a little at a time.

Mine only get those if they have sore teeth or need to be used to give tablets to them but what the bally mory are they doing with the other half?

I was initially shocked at this. However your reasoning is sound! 🤣

@Toddlerteaplease sorry, I didn’t mean to shock you 😆 She isn’t at all hard done by and probably has 2 a day (possibly even 3 if I’ve been in the kitchen a lot)!

Justice for Penelope!

My old girl questions whether one at a time is sufficient. She'd be very disappointed to only get half.

Toddlerteaplease · 05/06/2026 14:30

Justice for Mithril. Penelope always gets a whole one!

Louie would move out if he got half a "chicken yoghurt" as they are known in this house. He sits and paws at his cupboard from about 1030 if someone is at home in the day - it's his take on a mid-morning cup of tea and a biscuit.

For saving funds purposes that support buying more Lick e Lix, the Aldi version of the tubes are very good. Received like crack cocaine in this house.

tinyspiny · 05/06/2026 15:21

Our Siamese doesn’t like them at all but she is a very fussy eater .

Iheartmysmart · 05/06/2026 15:58

I bought Sid some of the Lidl dupes and you get 7 in a box compared to the usual 5! Think I am going to start giving her an allowance as she cost me a fortune in treats.

When I got Sid last year, she’d been found abandoned in a barn and was quite poorly. I wasn’t sure if she’d survive but she’s a little fighter and other than being prone to respiratory problems, pretty robust.

Because of the above, I was determined to feed her good quality food and treats. Unfortunately Sid had other ideas and all the expensive food has been swapped for Mon Petite (fish only), supermarket biscuits, lick-e-lix and dreamies!

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 05/06/2026 17:28

Sybil gets one every day - she waits on the kitchen table each morning and yells at us until she gets it. She sometimes gets two if we come down to breakfast at different times...
Can't imagine the trouble we'd be in if we only gave her half a portion 🙀
