Something to stop cat scratching sofa?

Our darling girl is a fan of scratching the corner of our sofa, we’ve just got a new one and I’d like to prevent the same thing happening but I don’t want to put some sort of crappy cover on it, is there a spray, or something else that would put her off? Cat tax attached…

Sorry, couldn't resist! Unfortunately cat's love sofas as scratching posts. Mine have loads of purpose built cat scratching posts which they ALSO use! Try a light water spray and squirrels it near them when they go to scratch sofa. Worked a treat when we did it with mum's cats! Good luck!

Squirt not squirrel ffs!!

Make sure your cat has a scratching post available, preferably one made from a different material that doesn't feel like the sofa.

I think there's something you can spray or rub on the sofa that they don't like the smell of, to deter them from using it. But check what's safe first.

Make sure she has several types of scratching devices near the sofa. So, a cardboard scratching pad right next to the corner where she scratches and then a sisal post close by as well. She needs options and then a gentle tap on her nose if she goes for the sofa. You can also gently remove her paws from the sofa and place them on the pad, tapping on the pad and saying “treats” and then giving her a Dreamies.

But get your affairs in order before you remove her paws.

I've just bought a Hilde and Phil sofa scratch thing for the cats. Sofa is protected and I have a useful shelf for my tea. Win win. Not cheap though and limited colours.

You can buy a large roll of what looks like fat double sided sellotape from Amazon for this very reason. Cats will not touch something sticky. We have it on the corners of sofas, chairs, beds. It works and is mostly invisible.

I know you don't want a crappy cover, but we put tin foil on just for a couple of days and that put her off forever.

Our boy has the brain of a goldfish/cat hybrid.
Walk to the sofa,very purposeful.
Extend paws ..with claws
"No"
Does the twitchy back thing , walks off round the coffee table .Comes back
Extends paws with claws
"Nooooo"
Swans off , twitchy back
Repeat
Repeat

Decides it is time to attack DD feet .
Paw Paw , Bite
Little Sod

There is a multi level tower with scratching posts a mere 3 feet away ......

3 days in and she hasn’t scratched it once, maybe a miracle has occurred!
