AIBU - cat is angry at me

I was clearing out yesterday and in the cat's snack box, I found 3 little tins of Lily's pate. Some expensive cat food we bought ages ago that she ate some of, so we bought a massive load of it, and then didnt touch any more

So I thought well, she's going to eat those, Im not wasting those. She normally ONLY eats the Gourmet pate cat food. ONLY

So she is starving, its well past dinner time (well about 10 mins past), and I think to myself 'good time to use up one of those left over tins of that stuff'

She literally glared at me after sniffing it and has now disappeared. I mean the eyes bore into me with anger.

Oh dear. I have the experience of that rage you describe (my cat starts doing litter tray- like scraping around food she doesn't like) then when I next go in the kitchen, she's eaten it. They like you to see their annoyance I think.

Maybe put the dish outside if you can because they seem to eat any old rubbish (cake thrown out for birds, cold sausages) if it's lying outside for some reason (scavenger instinct?)

I mean, you are being unreasonable, of course.

If cats don't show how they feel, how will you learn?

likelysuspect · 20/04/2026 16:59

Hold on. She's made a reappearance.

The face is a bit scrunched up though.

Think yourself lucky she hasn't eaten it - that Lily's stuff seriously disagreed with the delicate stomach of one of mine - you really do not need to know details.🤑

I gave mine a small piece of scrambled egg yesterday. You'd think I'd put put a lump of poison in his bowl. He hoiked it out with his claw and played with it on the kitchen floor, then watched with smug satisfaction as I cleared it up. Obviously my punishment.

Where’s the tax?

The disdain and ever so slight distaste with which my DGirlCat treats poached salmon, steak, roast chicken and haddock has to be seen to be believed. (DBoyCat is an enthusiast for all of them.)

Not worth the hassle, feed them what they like and throw the rest in the donation box in your local supermarket.

If course you are in the wrong and must bow down to your furry overlord. Just thank your lucky stars that she didn't eat you in revenge.

Cats have few pleasures in life as important as eating food they enjoy and snoozing in a warm patch of sunshine. And snoring on your head. I don’t blame her for being angry. Team cat 😆

Mine too - she doesn't usually have a delicate stomach at all, but I tried her on Lily's once and she projectile vomited all up the stairs Envy

She's been fed now. So ignoring me

Snoozing (for a change) on the back of the sofa where the heat rises up from the radiator behind it.

The cheek of it.

Im freezing.
