We have two kittens! It's been 20 years since I've owned a cat. All advice very welcome please.

These are Bootsie (darker) and Lidl (named by my 3 year old who loves Lidl doughnuts) 😍

Aww they are gorgeous! It’ll be muscle memory. I grew up with cats but never had the opportunity to have my own as an adult until my 40s when life settled down for me. I couldn’t believe how much the sound and feel of a purr brought back or the trampling of little paws on the duvet. You’ll love them ans wonder how you managed without foe so long ❤️❤️

Don't buy a cat bed. Get one off Freecycle if you want one.
They need a scratching post.

Cuties 😍

RandomMess · 21/03/2026 17:44

Put them to bed overnight in a separate room with some treat food and a litter tray. Enjoy the peace of not having them wake you up, or be out hunting.

They are divine! Yes def a scratching post and lots of toys. Mine love their water fountain.

Cardboard boxes. And if you can, leave their carrier out and put treats in it sometimes so they get used to going in there.

Make sure you get lifetime insurance from a decent company. More expensive in premiums, but well worth it if one of them develops something long term.

Try to feed them decent food. I don't particularly mean top of the range but don't go for the cheapest you find in the supermarket. I go on the theory that at least wet OR dry needs to be good quality, assuming they get a mix of both.

Accept early on that you don't have kittens, the kittens have got themselves a whole family of slaves to tend to their every desire.

Get them used to a routine if possible
look into a cat tracker if they’re going out

they’re gorgeous !

Do whatever the cat wants.....it makes for an easier life in the long run.

HotRootsAndNaughtyToots · 22/03/2026 09:45

Keep food and water bowls at least a foot apart, cats doing like their drinking water where it can get contaminated

We need more pics...

CP recommend you keep your cats indoors overnight to prevent them from getting run over in the dark when drivers can't see them. We used to feed ours around 6pm and locked her in then, saved having to do the dreamie rattle dance at midnight.

We gave ours two meals, once at breakfast, 7am and once in evening, 6pm ish. Then a small handful of dry when I went to bed as that stopped the early morning begging at 5am. Kittens need more meals though, small and often.

Enjoy having your house wrecked, they are beautiful 😂😍
