Do big cats get fur balls?

Watching a nature programme about Africa and big lions and tigers etc, and of course they're grooming themselves and each other and the cubs

Their tongues must be much rougher than our cats and their fur much thicker so dreading to think what they cough up

Ha ha ha I've also wondered about this! When I watch wildlife programmes with big cats,I've never seen any of them coughing up a gigantic fur ball!

They must do. I bet its adorable watching one go all kitty to cough one up

Sneak up to the nearest village at night and retch while everyone sleeps to see who sprints out the fastest

I have one of those cardboard scratching pads in my hallway for my cat. Stops her using my wickerwork chair. Whenever she coughs up a fur ball,it is ALWAYS on this scratching pad. So I end up having to get rid of it as it is impossible to clean cat puke off it. My hallway floor is tiled,so I'd rather she did it on that!

I’m sure I read once that the fur, bones, sinew etc that they consume helps trap it and and they come out in the poop.

Oh nooooo! Watching a cat yak up a furball is freaky to me, I have to leave the room. Seeing a lion do it, adorable isn’t the word I’d use…..

I just had to google!
Apparently rare, but captive big cats have shown occasional hairballs

If I had to guess, and reading the above, I think the natural diet of big cats means their stomach acids are stronger so would dissolve more of the fur than a domestic cat.

Do Big Cats Get Hairballs?

Domestic cats often hack up gooey mats of fur, but it's rare in their larger kin.

Does she get it right in all the grooves?

That would make a lot of sense because most of our moggies dont really get hardcore food, in my case she gets Gourmet Pate. This is not a food to replicate how her digestion would work in the wild.

She wont have anything else though.

Apparently only if they’re in some way poorly.
( & not all domestic cats will suffer with them)
