Cats have fallen out

We have two cats, unrelated but rescued together 9 weeks ago. About a year old. They spent the week before we took them home in the same pen, but hadn’t met before that. One is very shy but as soon as she started to gain confidence they’ve got on fine, playing together.

Until today. We let them out for the first time. Bold cat has had a good nose around, up on the fences and into other gardens. Shy cat went out for about a minute, decided it was all a bit much and came back in. And now apparently her sister is all wrong and she keeps hissing and growling at her.

What Google has told me is that I must now separate them and do slow reintroductions … I can’t really see how to do that in our house, short of shutting someone in a bedroom. And given they met in a pen as complete strangers and learned quickly to live together, surely they’ll come round?

I say ‘they’ - bold cat has no issues, and would just like to play with her sister. They’ve not come to blows (yet). Any advice or reassurance welcome!

Maybe she smells different having been outside. If they’ve previously got on, I’d just leave them to it.

Plug in feliway for the house to help them, I agree with PP it’s likely other cat now smells funny since being out, I wouldn’t separate then just yet unless the hissing or physical fighting starts. Hopefully the shy one will be ok and soon back to getting on with the other cat.

Ah, more Feliway (we had some when they moved in) is a good call. Ordered!

I left the downstairs doors and my bedroom
door open last night to give them a bit more space. I woke up at 1am to find bold cat jammed against my side, vigorously washing herself, and shy cat at my feet.

Been more of the same today but it’s not escalated so I’m less worried than I was
