Cat not eating after fever

My lovely 12 year old cat went to the vet on Monday as he was listless, not eating and clearly unwell. He had a high temperature so they ran blood tests (which didn’t show anything alarming) then gave him anti nausea and anti-inflammatory injections and started him on a course of antibiotics.

He is much brighter today, sitting on my
lap and even playing a little, but he still has almost no appetite. The vet checked him this afternoon and his temperature is back to normal, but she gave him more anti nausea and anti-inflammatory jabs to be on the safe side.

Does anyone have experience of cats not eating after a fever? I wondered if it is normal for it to take a couple of days for their appetite to return even after they seem better in themselves?

It can take a few days, did the vet suggest an appetite stimulant or check for dehydration?

Hope he’s feeling better soon.

Thank you, that is good to know. She said he isn’t dehydrated and that we could try a stimulant if he still isn’t eating or we could bring him back on Friday.

I would hate to subject him to another vet visit if I can avoid it as he gets so stressed, so it’s good to know this is normal and not necessarily a sign that something is wrong.
