I got the phone call we all dread 😢

At 6am this morning I got a call from a local vet to say that had a deceased cat handed in, and the microchip showed that it was our baby girl Tasha.

Absolutely devastated, still feel numb. Still waiting to see if she will come through the catflap, and its all just a big mistake...

By the sounds of it, it was a car, and it was quick.

Give your fur babies an extra cuddle today 😔😢

Oh that’s awful. So sorry.

TalulahJP · 03/03/2026 15:57

oh god how awful. 😢

I am so sorry, OP. I once had a knock on my back door from a neighbouring flat to tell me that my cat was deceased on the communal driveway. I was so shocked that I took a day off work (and was mocked for that by 1 person when I returned to work the next day).

I know how it feels. I have had cats my whole life and have always made the decision to let them out because cats love an adventure. Some have been lost in accidents before they grew old but others make it into old age (I had one who was around 20!).

Your cat was loved and had a good life. I still have a framed photo of the last cat I lost in my bedroom.

They are wonderful creatures and it hurts when they go.💐

Oh I’m so sorry, it’s never even occurred to me the possibility of finding out that way. 💐

Pudmyboy · 03/03/2026 16:51

Oh no, what a horrible shock for you, more so if the last time you saw her she was fine, I can understand thinking and hoping it is a dreadful mistake.
Please share pictures and memories of your Tasha if you want to. 💐💐💐

Frenchfemme · 03/03/2026 16:51

I’m so sorry for the loss of your lovely Tasha. The phone call must have been devastating. The only positive thing is that someone did take her to the vet, and you know what happened rather than her just being missing. 🌈💔

Sad news.

So sorry this happened, what a shock that must have been 💐💐💐
Edited to add: some people suck just don't get how important our animals are, and sadly no amount of explaining helps.

So sorry for your loss op..
Better to know than wonder worse things. Imo..

I saw her at around 1am all cosy and fast asleep on the sofa when I got up to get some paracetamol. I left for work at 5.30am and she was out, but she usually is at that time. She was found at 5.50am, and I got the phonecall from the vet at around 6.15am.

I'm glad that we have answers, and we will be able to take her home to bury in the garden. I'm so grateful to the person that found her and took her so quickly to the vets, it gave her a bit of dignity rather than lying on the side of the road for too long.

She was only 4. But her short time was happy, she was our perfect little girl ❤️

I am so sorry. I found my cat on the road in front of our house this morning. She had only just gone out. I feel so empty. Thinking of you.

ChatterMonkey · 03/03/2026 22:18

@pinkhousesarebest im so sorry you are going through the same thing, its awful.

I keep on running through the morning trying to think if there was anything I could have done different - i was up at 5am, if I had called her in then would she have come back to the house? But I would never usually call her that early.

Her brother peanut has been wandering round the house looking for her 💔 they never really liked each other all that much, but he knows she isn't here and he's unsettled 😢

So sorry poor cat, poor you

I read this last week and didn’t think I’d be posting so soon after. Our lovely boy was found by a kind neighbour this evening and we think had been knocked by a car. He had definitely had far more than nine lives on the road but it’s still a shock. He was especially lovely and cuddly last night too.
