FFS - That smell!

(D)Cat - almost 9 - has a bad habit of peeing where she shouldn't. She has no other health issues at all and has been checked over by the vet who basically indicated that some cats are just arseholes! I try and keep everything put away as much as possible so it's normally the rug, etc. but the other night a coat fell off the rack onto the floor and she decided to use that - put in the washing machine, no harm done.

She's now gone and done it inside a suitcase! Luckily it was empty as I was just about to put it away but of course now the lining, etc. stinks. I don't want to throw it away as it was expensive but just not sure how to wash it properly? I had odour reducing spray but don't feel like that is enough.

I also clean everywhere regularly, use plug ins/diffusers, and keep a clean litter tray but feel my house always smells of cat pee! Nobody has ever commented - and my mum is usually brutal about that kind of thing - and I have ASD so sensitive to smells but it just makes me feel disgusting!

Could you put puppy pads around the cat box?? Mine have a bad habit of weeing in odd places too. But there is a smell with the puppy pads and they use them regularly.
Know its a faff but easier to clean up

one of mine did this for ages, turns out another one (I have four) was guarding the upstairs litterbox the only one she likes 🙄. Just incase you have another.

You want a enzyme spray & cold water, do not use hot as it will basically make the stain stick to the fabric forever.

Dr Beckman Pet stain and odour remover
Then dab on dilute surgical spirit

Our vet has just suggested Calmex on food for the anxiety and if this doesn't resolve it can prescribe something.

This happened to me! DH and I met and lived abroad and I was visiting the in laws for the 1st time. I'd borrowed a heavy, wool coat from a friend. I did ask for our bedroom door to kept shut, because I have a cat allergy. Every day- our bedroom door would be opened by MIL and one day, the cat pissed into my suitcase and on my friends coat!

Getting it dry cleaned was very expensive at the time due to the exchange rate. 2 days after getting the coat back- the cat did it again! 😡 We've been married 24yrs now, but I still remember the smell and the cost at the time.

Thanks all, it's the enzyme spray I've already been using for the rug, etc. I do have another cat but there are no issues with either of them actually using the litter tray - she clearly just likes to mix it up a bit!

It's actually sunny here today so will stick the suitcase on the lawn for now - thanks!

Do you only have one litter tray. If so I would suggest additional trays. I have 3 for 2 cats but they are indoor only cats. I didn’t need 3 when I had cats that went out. If there is a specific location where the cat pees I would suggest putting one there.

Our female (no health issues , been to vet ) likes to wee on the puppy pad .
She ignores two large clean trays ( one for her /one for her brother )
She will sometimes use her brothers tray , Just Because .
She poohs in the tray (she never buries hers ) but wees on the puppy pad . This is an off ./on issue .

Recently we tried mixing in some of the Amazon popcorn litter (they use Cats Best ). They don't like it , so the trays were scrubbed and filled with the Cats Best

She is a contrary madam. I shampooed the carpet , she sauntered in and peed in the corner <sigh>

I know it isn;t just our CatHouse that is afflicted !

@70isaLimitNotaTarget here in solidarity! Mine has been known to look me square in the eye whilst peeing on the rug... she just doesn't care
