Litter recommendations

Please give me your cat litter recommendations. Multiple indoor only cats. I feel like we've tried everything.
I was hoping for a good clumping litter but the ones ive tried just get so wet and impossible to scoop. Corn etc is out. Considering crystals or back to paper.

We want to be able to remove poos and ideally urine or reduce smell twice a day. Boy cat wees a lot. They kick up the litter a lot so ideally something that doesn't scatter everywhere.
Eco friendly a bonus but may not be achievable.

Vancat is brilliant and lasts for ages! I also tried everything for my indoor cat but nothing could ever convince me to use anything else. Costs more initially but you save in the long run.

I use Cats Best Original. I buy a massive sack of it and it lasts about two months. I find it really good value for money. It’s a covered litter box so not too much on the floor, just a bit I sweep up when I see it.
It clumps amazingly well! You can just give the tray a shake and the clumps come to the top for you to scoop out. Every other day I add a scoop of fresh litter. I tried lots of other types before this, but have stuck with this for years because I’ve found nothing better.

Cats Best. Clumps so you can lift soiled bits out so only have to top up which means a bag lasts months. It’s game changing

Catsan is the only one for me.

cshp · 22/02/2026 02:52

So those using vancat or cats best or catsan if its the clumping one, do you easily scoop out the wee clumps? The one we are using just becomes a wet clump, we have to take out so much each day and it becomes so that you can't even take it out, its just like wet sand that doesnt really clump, just sticks to the scoop and the tray

Katkin Scoop Planet is excellent, eco friendly, dust free and clumps really well.
One bag lasts a month for our indoors girl.

Following with interest. Recently switched to Ever Clean and whilst it keeps the room fresh smelling, the fine litter is tracked everywhere. It also becomes this hard paste like substance when the tray running low

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 22/02/2026 11:36

We use Catsan, but non-clumping - scoop poo immediately and “turn it over” after a wee. It does track, but possibly because our boy loves to dig dig dig. We have a foamy mat designed to catch litter underneath the main tray he uses and it’s on a hard floor so easy to sweep.

I use RSPCA wood pellets. It’s a natural litter that’s kind to the environment. It’s non clumping though. It turns to sawdust when wet, and once pooped is removed the litter can be composted.

Sminty2 · 22/02/2026 15:55

I use Bio Catalet. It’s paper based but very easy to clean up solids from and my super arrogant Maine Coone deigns to use it, and it only.

Ihatemondays1962 · 22/02/2026 20:05

I use cats best too.

KittenTax · 23/02/2026 21:40

I’m going to try the VanCat for long haired cats. Hopefully we will have slightly less mess!

Happyjoe · 24/02/2026 09:14

Sains own make clumping was excellent when my girl was a kitten. Moving soon so will try and get some more for the staying in period.

Yes Cats Best turns the wee into pretty much solid balls you can just lift out.

I'd highly recommend this:

We have 4 cats and this clumps brilliantly! And it smells fab too
