Young male cat started pooing on sofa 😩

I’d really appreciate any advice, as we’re struggling with our two year old male cat. We adopted him and his mum about three months ago, and all was going well - they’ve settled in with us really nicely. But in the last week he’s started pooing on one of our sofas! I make sure both litter trays are clean (they were anyway but they’re pristine now!) and have bought a feliway plug in in case he’s anxious (though not sure why he would be after several months). I’m also going to phone the vet to check in case it’s anything medical. Any advice / experience would be very welcome x

Often a sign of stress.
Maybe not as compatible with Mum as the rescue thought. Does he go out?

Thanks for your quick reply 😊 Yes he does go out - we kept them inside for the first 6 weeks or so but he’s been going out since just before Christmas. The two cats seem to get on well together (sleep cuddled up, play together etc) but definitely something to consider. We also have a three year old (we took the cats on the basis that we would see how they got on with her) - but though they were wary of her at first, they are now very good and she’s gentle with them. She has grown up with our lovely old cat who we sadly lost a few months ago, so she is quite good with animals. But I guess that could be a cause of stress. It’s just strange as he seems happy and settled generally, so trying to work out why this behaviour has suddenly started!

I'd get some Feliway, calming treats etc, but it might be worth a trip to the vets to rule out an infection or similar.
Just a thought - have you changed the litter? Ie using a different kind?
