Dcat didn’t come to see me

Dcats both come up to my room every morning as soon as my alarm goes off.
This morning, only girl cat came. Boy cat normally follows me from room to room in the morning but today he stayed sitting in the lounge. Even when I came downstairs he didn’t come. There’s no other signs of illness I can see. He’s sitting normally and walks normally when I ask him too. His tummy isn’t tender or hard.
Do I take him the vet or just watch and see?
They are indoor cats, if that makes a difference.

He has just come into the kitchen and is sat by my feet.

Wait and see … I wouldn’t be rushing to the vet for that

He’s just jumped up and eaten a bit of his dry food (it’s always out and he prefers it to wet food) and is now lying down next to his bowl. His sister came and licked him on the head, which she doesn’t normally, so I don’t know if she’s worried about him too?

Personally I would want to get him checked over. Have you seen him urinate or try to use his litter tray?

Kittkats · 29/01/2026 08:40

Last night he used the litter tray with no problem, he’s not been yet this morning

I would want to make sure he’s not blocked or injured - can you give him a good feel all over and make sure there’s no sore spots?

Kittkats · 29/01/2026 08:57

I’ve done that: no sore spots.

That sounds odd, I would get him checked.
Our youngest boy cat went quiet and I didn't think much of it (the first time). Turned out he had a blocked bladder which was fixed. It then returned with a vengeance 6 weeks later and he was hospitalised for 3 days - with my DH having to ferry him between locations during the day.

If he's acting that odd, I'd get him checked, even if it turns out to be nothing.

Any change in their routine behaviour is worrying. I agree something seems off.

He seemed to pick up a bit this morning (I started work late to
keep an eye!) and is better still tonight. Fingers crossed he’s back to normal soon

I wonder if he had a hairball he couldn’t shift for a while? Glad he seems a bit better.
