high sided litter trays

Can anyone recommend one they are using? Ours are just the bog standard ones and I'm fed up with litter being booted around and trod all over the house. It's in my slippers, in the bath, even in my bed. I expect a bit of tracking as its light-weight (Cat's Best) but not this much <glares at litter-booting horrors>

I just got my DDs bunnies a big one with higher sides from Pets at home think it was £10 but it was a lot bigger, they also do corner ones which the sides are proper deep. Or how about the lidded litter trays.

Goldpanther · 24/01/2026 15:06

I've switched to these, I know they are hooded, but my cat had a week without the door on to learn, and has got used to the cat flap. Very easy to change the litter, and I maybe have 2 or 3 grains of litter on the floor, but that is soo much better than a normal litter tray.

We used cats best and it’s brilliant litter for clumping and keeping the tray clean but it doesn’t half track! My cats jump over any mats I place in front of them just to make sure they keep some on their paws 🙄

We use these huge trays, which does help a bit and keeps the wee inside. They are a bit of a pain to empty and wash because they are so big, but I don’t think I’d go back to smaller trays.

We have a big, deep, high sided corner tray and I'm sorry to say our boy still likes to kick litter all over the place. I think he was a rabbit in his previous life as he LOVES to dig! I got a mat from Amazon to go underneath which helps, it's kind of spongy with little holes and is designed to catch litter.

Our previous cat toileted 99.9% of the time outdoors but this lad just really likes the litter tray. He will come in from outside to use it, wait for a slave to "do a tidy" as we call it, then go back out.

Caaarrrl · 24/01/2026 15:20

I use top entry trays. No mess outside of tray and no snacks for the dog 🤢

Gatekeeper · 24/01/2026 15:22

Worst offender is 21 and although still has a bit of booting power to his back legs, couldn't manage a top loader!

We have them because one of our cats loves piddling outside of it. No UTIs and nothing wrong with her, she's just a high piddler. Our litter trays are high sided only at the back, but we had to turn one around so the high side is facing outwards because the little critter pee'd high up the shorter side 🙄We got them from Pets at home.

My cat was using this one (minus the transparent flap - previous owner said she didn't like it so they removed it) when I adopted her and I've found it very good https://www.petsathome.com/product/pets-essentials-hooded-cat-litter-tray-grey-large-x-large/7132668P?=&productId=7132668&size=large/XLarge

Very cute 🥰

We also have a 21 year old and bought this for her last year, as she kept missing and it went over the sides. The high sides and lip ensure that there are no accidents.

People with big cats use plastic storage boxes.
After all, it's the same thing.

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 25/01/2026 14:55

My friend uses a baby bath. It seems very effective.

JudgementalCat · 25/01/2026 15:01

I got this one recently. I turn it so the low part is against the wall.

We got the hinged lid version from PaH https://www.petsathome.com/product/extra-large-flip-cat-hooded-cat-loo/7102981P?productId=7102981&size=oneSize and then a mat in front of- not so convinced about the effectiveness of the mat but the litter tray is good.

ModBox and Cats Best Smart Clumping pellets.

Neither are cheap options but my ModBox litter tray is seven years old. No litter outside of the tray ever with that combination.

Gatekeeper · 31/01/2026 16:55

Well it's been a week and neither cat will use the new litter tray even when I took the 2nd one away (they have 2). Used the old litter so it still smelled like home and also fresh but absolute refusal

Awkward buggers!

We only use ours when one needs to be in because they’re not well but we have a high sided and a matt that stops them tracking it. Just from Amazon I think.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 31/01/2026 18:34

We've tried all sorts with ours .
FemaleCat used to scrape the sides of the hooded tray with her paws , a proper 'nails on a blackboard' squeal squeak squeak

MaleCat has a underbed tray that I took the wheels off , it is huge but has a raised arch in each corner (from the wheels outside) which he likes to push his bottom into for a pee . Hmm
He hates any changes so we have to be careful what we introduce to him.
They have Cats Best but we tried a tiny bit of the Amazon Popcorn one , they eyed it judgily , even mixed in.
