Cat BIT me!

We have 4 cats; my family have always kept cats - or rather, they let us feed and pet them, and provide warm places to sleep and generally be their slaves.

This particular cat, a boy of 3 years old, followed me to the loo, wound round my legs a few times and then BIT MY THIGH, while I was having a pee. It was a very gentle nip but certainly took me by surprise.

I just wondered if anyone else had experienced such an indignity?😁

My previous cat bit quite often if we needed reprimanding. She never scratches, and only once did her bite draw blood.

If she went for my hand I’d relax the muscles, which meant she ended up with nothing in her mouth which confused her. My mum would tell her off by tapping her on the nose, until the day the cat grabbed her finger and said it it in her mouth. Mum gave up after that!

One of mine likes to give you a little reminder of who is actually in charge.

For instance, the other morning I switched on my coffee machine on which then needed beans adding and grounds emptying.

The cat decided that this was not acceptable, the delay in delivering his breakfast was not on. Usually I switch on the coffee machine and then get a pouch of food.

Adding beans and emptying the grounds was not on his list. He gave me a little nip on my calf to let me know what he thought.

He is a bit of a twat tbh. Mad as a hatter, skippy, vocal, thinks he rules the house.

Twatalert · 21/01/2026 08:55

Oh a little love bite. That's wonderful, congratulations!

Beamur · 21/01/2026 08:58

My boycat gently bites me. It's affectionate. He bit me once at the vets - not affectionate.

TheJustJoker · 21/01/2026 08:58

Mine does this when we’re playing: if I stop and move away he does a little leg nip to say “sorry, we’re not finished yet”. I know my place.

bcski · 21/01/2026 09:54

That's a love bite.
One of mine does that from time to time when she's being really affectionate.

Jux · 21/01/2026 09:58

It does feel more affectionate than anything, though I’m aware it’s very easy to make those sort of judgements through wishful thinking. He gave me another nip while I was getting dressed, rubbed his head all over my arm while I was trying to put my clothes on and gave me a nip on the elbow. Purring away.

Two of our cats give you little licks and the fourth doesn’t do either. He probably hates us! (ACtually he’s quite affectionate, loves letting you warm your hands on his tummy, but expects someone to rub him down if he’s been out in the rain!)

@Jux I didn’t mention that my twat cat is known to jump on my bed, purring like a tractor and bite my arm (if it is out of the covers) if I’m not up at 6am (which is very rare).

If I ignore him he gets really annoying, he jumps on my window ledges swiping breakable ornaments onto the floor and then hangs off the bar in the middle of the sash doing Spider-Man impressions because he knows it gets a reaction.

He is the biggest twat cat 🐈‍⬛ in the world, never had one like him and I’ve had cats all my life. Of course he is loved despite his twattery.

Favouritefruits · 21/01/2026 16:08

One of my girls bites me daily, it’s just what she does. She’s just putting me in my place 😂

explanationplease · 23/01/2026 09:33

I’m getting this and I’m not impressed. Cat fed 3 times a day and he comes to stare at me when it’s due, often early. If I
don’t move immediately to feed him, he nips me. I yelled yesterday in pain, and he legged it.

Beamur · 23/01/2026 09:45

I don't think nipping for food is very polite!
I'm currently having a battle of wills with my fussy eating cat. She's always been fussy but seems to think I should just keep opening more food until I find the one she fancies eating today. I disagree. I have probably made it worse by sometimes opening a second pouch in hope of finding the right one but she's now refusing the food almost every time. Tough love called for - I now open one and walk away. If she doesn't eat it, no alternatives are offered. She is unimpressed.

Megifer · 23/01/2026 09:47

I had a cat that used to nip my ankle if I was too slow putting her food out

Breadcat24 · 23/01/2026 12:15

Is that you David Baddiel- is this revenge for your bongos?

TY78910 · 23/01/2026 12:20

Ahh the attention bite. Mine does this when she wants to play.

grangehilltuba · 23/01/2026 12:24

Our elderly chap does this. He also likes to sit behind me and rake his teeth across my scalp. I assume it’s affectionate but it’s absolutely horrible 😆

Nincompoo · 23/01/2026 12:26

My cat bites me all the time, not viciously, I think it a weird torti way of showing affection!

explanationplease · 23/01/2026 12:33

I don’t own a spray bottle but I would certainly have given him a quick blast yesterday if I had. I don’t apologise for it; it’s not on.

tinyspiny · 23/01/2026 12:36

My late mum had a ragdoll that used to bite her regularly , absolutely no reason would just hang around doorways and have a nibble as she came in , he never bit anyone else

Greenwitchart · 23/01/2026 12:52

Yep. My current one loves (gently) biting the top of my head when I am sleeping and she has decided it is time for me to wake up...

NutritiousSardines · 23/01/2026 12:55

He sounds very affectionate! My boy gently bites my fingers in the morning to wake me up (‘get to the kitchen, slave!’ ) and I always feel very honoured (as I stagger to the feeding bowl).

whirlyhead · 23/01/2026 12:57

One of mine nips anyone who ignores him which has caused any number of first time tradespeople to shriek and jump when he does this to them.

It's understandable - he is adorable and hardly anyone ignores him.

I have another who is a psychopathic hobgoblin who thinks nothing of suddenly sinking his fangs in you down to the bone...

Jux · 24/01/2026 16:28

They are wondous creatures, and all of yours sound absolutely lovelly. As are all of mine, especially the one who is an eldritch creature of the night.

Take joy in them! Your stories have made me smile and laugh and be happy, thank you.

Sometimes little bites or nibbles are definitely affectionate! My cat used to do this sometimes. We have a dog now, who'll lick my chin and then nibble gently at it a little. He's an adorable weirdo.
