Car proofing garden

Hi

looking at ways to potentially cat proof my garden for the summer. Has anyone tried or know anyone with this? I can’t do a catio and ideally don’t want the mesh. 2 sides are mine and one my neighbours. He does go out with supervision and doesn’t attempt the fence that often but would prefer to let him roam without me watching.

Why don't you want him to roam without you watching. Are you in the US.

RandomMess · 18/01/2026 13:21

A friend made her own version by using a plastic drainpipe with smaller piping inside. One car can escape but the other 5 not.

I used Protecta pet and it’s been brilliant. You can diy it.

Because people drive at stupid speeds through my estate even though it’s 20mph. He’s a black cat so harder to spot and refuses to wear a collar which I’ve been trying for the past 6months to put on him so he would at least have something reflective on him. The way my house is set up atm I can’t fit a cat flap to the rear of my house and would have to be the front which would push him out in the direction of the road. So basically i don’t let him roam out the garden if i can help it. He’s an ex stray of around 3 years old and been off the street for pretty much a year.

I have Katzecure, not cheap but it's been great. Took me a little while to trust it, but it's worked and I leave my cat to go in and out of the garden as she pleases.

Thank you. I just think it looks less intrusive than some of the other stuff on the market. I’ll look into it, if you’ve found it works. Somehow he is a really bad jumper seeing as he was a stray for most of his life (3/4ish years)

That's why I chose it, it actually looks nice! I've had it 2 and a half years now I think, and no escapes (touches wood!) and I know she would have no bother getting over the fence without it
