Must say, I'm not enjoying this... I guessed it would be all about forcing cats to do unnatural things like bike riding and going on the Tube... and so it is... they hate it, and so do I... 😟

How did they not see the body language of that poor shut-in grey cat! He had his ears back, tail thrashing... of course he was going to bite!

I think Jonathan Ross was actually - and rightly - quite angry at Baddiel doing that 'bongo thing on his cat. It doesn't matter if you give it a funny name, the cat just knows you're hitting it...

AnnaMagnani · 16/01/2026 20:30

DH and I are loving it. We are loving the validation that we aren't weird by showing people our cat photos.

Wouldn't dare do bongos on Byron though. He has strong opinions and expresses them with his claws.

Toddlerteaplease · 16/01/2026 20:35

I’m not enjoying it either. Why is he doing things the cats obviously hate. Well done King Louis for biting him. Touching Larry on his back legs. I thought that’s a no go for most cats. However I did enjoy the section about Larry. Until he picked him up.

His poorly car looks so sad.

Aww, poor Pip... it wasn't looking good, was it... 🥺 I just lost my dear little cat girl a couple of weeks ago so I can relate to his sadness... and yes, cried buckets when she died but not for my Dad...

Littletreefrog · 16/01/2026 21:01

Yes I think Jonathan Ross was actually angry at him for basically hitting his cat. Even at the end when they showed a clip of him doing it to his cat to prove cats like it his cat was tolerating it not enjoying it.

lightnesspixie · 16/01/2026 21:03

I loved it

Gribouille · 16/01/2026 21:42

@Littletreefrog Yes, Rossy's eyes just flashed, didn't they? And 'bongo'ing Baddiel's face was basically: 'See how you like getting hit, pal! That's what you just did to my cat!'

To be fair, I can see that Baddiel was trying to make television and prove that cats are as interesting as dogs... but it's a different kind of interesting. It's like dogs are actors and cats are writers - dogs want to be up front and getting attention, but writers get dragged out to do readings, and some of them like it, but most are naturally more reserved and find it excruciating...

It’s on channel 4, not 5 as title says.

Yes. He really wasn’t happy about it.

I thought he was a bit of a tosser with his cat bongos and was glad the grey cat bit him. Too much I'm a celebrity here is my cat and not enough cats

SabrinaThwaite · 16/01/2026 22:40

A real let down of a programme on the whole - just bits of fluffy stuff (kitty yoga FFS) and insta rubbish.

My one takeaway was David Baddiel saying he cried buckets over the death of his cat because his love for her was simple and unconditional and he didn’t cry over the death of his father because that relationship was so complicated.

Cathymaker · 17/01/2026 11:29

Disappointed as it didn't show the true wondrous nature of the cat, though it did inadvertently give some insight when Louis gave Baddiel a little bite. They really don't even pretend to suffer fools and I love that about them. Hoping this episode was just setting us up for 2 better ones to come.

EachandEveryone · 17/01/2026 20:28

Loved Jonathons cat. I hope it’s not just a vehicle to launch Dollys nepo babe career. I felt for the grey one never going out. He was clearly over weight. I don’t mind seeing celebrities cats at least they seem to be rescued. Can’t wait for Dawn Porters.

CrossPurposes · 18/01/2026 17:43

I was looking forward to this but it was mostly boring. I'm not in interested in dressing up cats or doing yoga with kittens.

I'm hoping it gets better. I know episode 3 has a therapy cat. I hated the yoga. Worried me sick a kitten would get squashed. Nothing relaxing about it.

GrethaGreen · 20/01/2026 06:47

I was also looking forward to this, but I thought it was boring too. I love cats, but I have no interest in these cat influencers or kitten yoga. I also thought Baddiel a really boring presenter and the cats didn’t seem to like him much

ConcernedBella · 22/01/2026 00:52

My uncle thought he liked cats but thought that cats enjoyed being hit. Absolutely no empathy! Would any grown man enjoy being slapped by a giant 20 something times their size. You can really hurt them. I had to turn it off. I think he thought we all would love the show. Great idea he thought like kitten yoga or forcing a cat to perform for money. No! If you really like cats watch Jackson Galaxy on his show cat from hell. A cat behaviourist.

Jackson Galaxy would have had diplomatic but stern words with Baddiel about the bongos.

PearPlop · 25/01/2026 20:52

I’ve now watched two episodes of this, I did find the rescue for disabled cats interesting but think that overall it’s not living up to expectations. I would rather hear more about cat behaviour and the history of cats. What I don’t want to see is insta cats like the guy cycling around with his. That is more about weird people than the beauty of cats.

Cathymaker · 26/01/2026 04:51

Episode 2 was an improvement. I'd rather watch it than not watch it but I still think they're only just touching the surface of the wonders of the cat.

worrisomeasset · 26/01/2026 17:51

I thought there was too much emphasis on pedigree cats, which I didn't expect as Baddiel's own cats are all moggies.

GoodVibesHere · 26/01/2026 21:53

This show sounded quite promising, but has actually been frustrating. Baddiel seems to know very little about cats (he'd never heard of the GCCF, and also had never heard of a wobbly cat) which is fine but then instead of asking interesting questions he's too busy trying to be funny, and when he had the chance to learn a bit about cat shows he was quite rude and didn't take in any of the information.

I was hoping to hear a bit about cat behaviour but it's not that sort of show it seems.

GoodVibesHere · 26/01/2026 21:54

Also the programme jumps around too quickly, just as we're hearing about one cat they move on to a different one and then back again, it just seems badly done overall.
