Cat's strange eye discharge

My 4 year old cat often gets 'watery eyes', and when she does, she leaves a rusty colour on the windowsill where she sits and has cleaned her face. Sometimes it gets particularly bad and we have to wipe her eyes with cooled boiled water.

We had her checked at the vets who said there wasn't anything they could see causing it and nothing of concern. Said it might be because she sleeps near a radiator and this could affect her tear ducts. This does happen more over winter so maybe the vet is right?

Has anyone else had this with their cat and should we investigate it further? Vet did offer to refer us to the animal hospital 'if we really wanted her to"...

My ginger boy does, no health issues. No vet concerns for his golden tears! I clean them occasionally, but he generally sorts it himself.

Good to know that it's not just our cat then and doesn't seem anything to worry about (apart from having to constantly clean the window sill!)

Wondering if anyone else will be along to say their cat weeps another colour!

My ginger boy does occasionally in one eye. He's fine according to the V.E.T.

My Persians did this a lot. They needed an eye wipe fairly regularly. Penelope is the first Persian I’ve had who doesn’t have gunky eyes.

We have Burmeses that get brown and black eye gunk - like people get “sleep” in the eye corners. Apparently it’s normal!

We got told it was a symptom of cat flu and nothing to worry about x

Mine has gunky eyes after he was injured a few years ago - it’s fine, we just wipe them when they get particularly bad.
