Hello, so we rescued a cat from someone who wasnt very nice to him. (All reported etc) we decided to keep him, we assumed he was a tabby, hes very clingy, more and more playful as time with us has gone on. Taken him to vets for a check up vaccinations etc. Well the vet told us that initially cos of how small he was they assumed he was a tabby, (underfed, malnourished) but now he put on weight and growing that they think hes main coon. They said carry on doing what we are doing. Now im home ive got a few questions. My question is there any different foods we should be offering? What about toys, he plays with what weve got him, but likes to play on his terms and usually when weve left the room. He is cuddly and enjoys a good stoke. Weve not brushed him as hes afraid of brushing, is there anything we can try to stop matting. No other animals or children.

He doesn't need any special food, just go with whatever he likes and will eat. Maine Coons are gorgeous and usually very calm good natured affectionate cats, you're very lucky to have him. You will need to slowly coax him to be brushed though, his coat's going to need it. But be patient with him, he needs time to settle.
Fantastic that you've rescued him.
Can we have a little cat tax please? 🥰

You can buy cat grooming gloves you can wear when you stroke them, so that might be worth a go, at least to start with. But if he's long-haired, you will eventually have to train him to accept proper grooming with a brush as well.

What do his ears look like? Maine Coon ears are very distinctive.
