Cat gone missing

Random but I keep my cat in the kitchen / dining room over night, this morning she wasn’t in there when I went in there but we assumed she must have been hiding. Anyway she never came out at all, and still nothing, I’ve put her food down and nothing. She’s an indoor cat, no way to get out all doors and windows are closed. Searched everywhere. No partner or kids that would have let her out. What has happened to her?! Definitely couldn’t have got out

Inside a sofa (if you have one in the dining room?)

WhereHasMyCatGone · 31/12/2025 23:28

No, no sofa 😔 only one in the living room and she’s definitely not there

I “lost” our cat recently and he had made a den underneath the throw on the armchair. He now does it a lot and if you say “where’s Louie?” he miaows to say he’s there.

WhereHasMyCatGone · 01/01/2026 00:11

It’s been all day 😔 would he normally go all day?

Ours is usually on top of a wardrobe when she disappears for a bit

MasculineProviderEnergy · 01/01/2026 00:24

Could the cat have squeezed behind the kitchen cabinets? The service bit for pipes etc. You can easily pull off the base cabinets plinth, and have a listen/ shine a torch around. Is there a fireplace?

This is what I think but wouldn’t she meow if she was stuck? It’s the only place she could have gone

Are you 100% sure that she couldn’t have got out? She hasn’t snuck out as someone has come in has she?

It’s very strange that you haven’t seen her all day if she’s in the house.

WhereHasMyCatGone · 01/01/2026 00:31

Door hadnt been open all day. I have children but they haven’t been out and not opened the door till we started looking for her but they wouldn’t have opened the door otherwise and door was locked, no windows open. She was in the kitchen overnight but wasn’t there this morning when I went in there so she’s some how gone before anyone has woken up

You'd think so, but if cats are in a pickle they'll often hunker down and keep quiet. Turn everything off in the room and have a careful listen. Try heating some food a little bit, the smell may tempt her out.

It only takes a second for them to slip out though - any deliveries?

WhereHasMyCatGone · 01/01/2026 00:34

No, no deliveries. I will try that with the food, thanks.

I'm assuming you've checked your garden just incase she has got out somehow and is hiding in bushes maybe?

WhereHasMyCatGone · 01/01/2026 00:55

Yeah sadly nothing in the garden either!

I found mine behind the washing machine with the tumble dryer on top once - was a right faff to get her out!
she didn’t make a sound!
I hope you find her!

No - he hops out the minute you open a cupboard in the kitchen or a packet really. Our last cat once “disappeared” overnight and I eventually found her tangled up in the pipes in the boiler cupboard, as small as could be, because the battery in the smoke alarm was low and beeping intermittently. She hated any loud noise (I sleep with earplugs and my DP was away for work).

LilyFeather · 01/01/2026 01:10

itll Be behind the kick boards in the kitchen

TY78910 · 01/01/2026 01:11

Hope you find her. There are collars with AirTag holders. We have these for our cats. Then we can literally ping them. Bonus if you train the cat to get a treat whenever the ding sound goes off - then they always come back (good for outdoors)

suburberphobe · 01/01/2026 01:17

Probably out partying for New Year's Eve....

Sorry OP, that was tongue-in-cheek.

Hope she comes back real soon.

Love cats.

WhereHasMyCatGone · 01/01/2026 01:48

Panic over she’s come out of hiding 😓🎉 thanks all.

@WhereHasMyCatGone phew! Where was she?

MasculineProviderEnergy · 01/01/2026 02:22

That is good news.OP. Did you see where she'd been hiding?

ETA that she was maybe scared by fireworks?

ImogenBrocklehurst · 01/01/2026 07:54

We were in a proper flap, calling for him, searching everywhere. After about three hours the furry arshole wriggled out from behind the fridge, tripping over the toaster on his way. Might be worth a look?

Also, any random boxes sitting about? If there’s s box, there’s a cat in this house.

Edited: you found her! Good news.
