Someone shot my cat yesterday

I just want to vent really! Yesterday, our cat came home limping and bleeding - after being rushed to the out-of-hours vets, they told us he has an airgun pellet in his hip. He's probably going to be OK but it's still early days.

We live in a small village, and know a lot of the neighbours. So it's a horrible feeling to think that one of them is so cruel and nasty.

We've reported to the police but I doubt they'll be able (or inclined) to do much. I'm also asking around the neighbours I know to find out if they're aware of anyone trigger-happy with an airgun. Feel like I should warn other cat owners too.

I'm so angry and upset!

I hope whoever did that to your beautiful boy ends up dead in a ditch.

You have probably also just had to spend a small fortune on vets bills - what a nightmare. If you have the money, I would be setting up a catio. There are just too many sick people out there.

Mmimmyokay · 29/12/2025 21:19

Same happened to us 20 years ago. He dragged himself home to die :(

He was in local paper, never found out who did it :(

People are sick.

Absolutely disgusting OP, I’m so sorry, and I’m so glad your boy will be ok. It makes me so cross when people describe people like this as ‘like animals’ - not that anyone has it’s just what you often hear said about a crime like this - I always want to say no, they’re nothing like animals who behave far better. Your poor boy, how dare someone hurt him. I hope whoever did it has something equally awful happen to them or someone they love.

FFSToEverythingSince2020 · 29/12/2025 21:29

What the hell is wrong with people? If someone is upset with what an animal is doing, they need to remember that it’s an animal! It’s just going on instinct. It’s not like any cat is going, “I just fucking hate Nigel at No. 38. I’m going to shit in his yard extra, on purpose.” But these people who are extremely hateful of cats act as if these moggies are committing a personal affront. Cats have right to roam. It’s the bloody law.

And @moggerhanger , I think so, so many can relate to the cherry poo on top of the poo cake that has been 2025. I’m sorry it’s been that way for you. I hope your little lad, who is absolutely gorgeous, is well soon!

Royal Canin do a treat with a pocket for pills. Might help? It's called Royal Canin Pill Assist.

moggerhanger · 30/12/2025 12:30

Ooh thanks @NotDarkGothicMama I'll try anything!

So sorry to hear about this Mogger and hope your lad is making a full recovery.

I think pill assist treats sound like a stroke of genius!

usedtobeaylis · 30/12/2025 12:52

What a little soul, I'm glad he's ok. I cannot fathom the cruelty of some people.

The police might investigate, they're is growing awareness of animal cruelty being linked with violence against people also

yes - this is interesting. my father made some physical threats of violence to me (Hes an 80 years old man FFS) and we told the police. they came around to interview me and one of the questions they asked was whether I had ever seen him be violent to animals. I had when I was a child when he used ot kick and beat our dog.
