Osteosarcoma

Hi
Took one of our cats to the vets yesterday as he was limping. They did xrays and the leg is broken. They thought this was odd as he did not appear to have been knocked over so they xrayed his lungs took bloods and none samples. They decided to wait for the results before treating the leg. Just got a call to say he appears to have osteosarcoma.we lost our dog to this 3 years ago, the vet says it's different with cats. I wondered if anyone has had any experience with this

No experience but that’s really crappy for you to have to go through this again. Is it operable?

He had his right front leg amputated this morning, the vet is happy that the operation went well and thinks the prognosis is good so we can pick him up tomorrow. She said that cats can normally adjust to amputation better than dogs but it being the front leg it may take longer. She sent me a report of a study done recently that shows that some cats can live between 1 -4 years after the operation.

Thank you for your post, it all happened really quickly as the vet didn't want to leave it too long

Hopefully he’ll be up and around in no time!
