I’m extremely upset and just looking for somewhere to vent and speak about this.

My neighbours bought a kitten 2 years ago and about a year ago they started leaving her outside for long periods of time. She would be sat on their window for hours crying to come inside while they just ignored her. By Christmas they weren’t letting her in at all, I watched out of my window once as they came through the door, cat tried to get in and they kicked her out of the way. She started sleeping in a bush. On Christmas Day I let her inside mine and over a short period of time let her inside more and more until eventually she classed my house as her home. Unfotunately, she HATED my cat and would try to attack him so I had to keep them separate. I tried to do introductions but it was clear that she just hated him in the house. (She was fine outside with him though, she just stayed away. But inside would act aggressively)

Because of this, I had to get her rehomed. With the previous owners permission, I took her to a rescue. I told them she NEEDS to be an outdoor cat as she really loves it and wouldn’t cope well as an indoor cat. A lady took her in and I was in contact with her, I told her all about her background and let her know that after she’s settled she will need to go out. This lady’s previous cat had died on the road and so she didn’t want to let her out. Instead, she took her out on a harness, the cat saw another cat and because she couldn’t run to get away (as she was restricted) she started to attack the woman’s leg. She took her inside and then didn’t bother trying again. Just over a week ago the cat apparently walked into the living room and randomly attacked the woman for no reason. It was pretty bad, she showed me the picture of her hand with multiple puncture marks where she was bitten, and she returned the cat to the rescue.

Cat is now back up for adoption and advertised as “indoor only”. I have contacted the rescue and told them the whole reason this happened will have most likely been because she was kept indoors and would have been extremely frustrated. The rescue have said that they think she saw a cat through the window and redirected her aggression to the owner and therefore they are looking for an indoor home in a flat for her where she can’t see cats from the window. I feel absolutely awful for this poor cat who has been through so much (she suffered some abuse at her first home and was also put through two pregnancies until they finally spayed her) and now she’s to be cooped up in a flat! I made it so clear to everyone that she needs to go outdoors. She spent a lot of time outside and I was told from her previous owner that when she was kept inside after having her kittens and after being spayed she hated it and was climbing the walls. But they will not change it.

I just feel so upset and wish I never surrender her to this rescue 😢 just needed a place to let it out
