Cat tht was always outside, had a owner but its been kicked out of their home.
Felt bad for her so let her come in,fed her etc.
But I noticed a strong bad smell that I think it's coming from her mouth. And she had loose bowel movement on my bed as we were sleeping.
I feel bad as I had to put her out again, can't really afford vet with a unknown condition, possibly expensive and long term.
What can I do? Could I take her and leave her at a rescue?
Adult tortoise cat.
Any ideas?

She might have parasites, causing the diarrhea I use droncit once a month on my cats, it's £7 a dose from viovet. Can you ask at a vet how much tooth extractions cost ? Just saying it might not be too expensive

Catpiece · 01/11/2025 16:12

Our vet quoted £700 for one tooth, yes just £700

TheHazelCritic · 01/11/2025 16:21

Do you think it's a tooth issue? 700!i could never pay that.
Do rescues accept adult cats?

One of our rescues had to have multiple teeth out all at once and that was around £600-700 including the medication and follow-up appointment.

@TheHazelCritic - I'm guessing it could be the teeth, also possibly an ear infection (that smells vile also), and those sorts of infections can have an effect on their disgestive system. My suggestion would be for you to contact Cats Protection and tell them about the cat, and that you think she is an abandoned stray. They will advise you.

You could ring Cats Protection League and explain she's a stray but you think she needs me radical care but you'd take her if they could sort the medical care.

Do you have a people dispensary for sick animals near you?? Or a blue cross vets x

MiGataCalico · 01/11/2025 16:28

Best thing is to contact local rescues (catchat.org had a rescue finder) and explain that you've taken in an abandoned cat but are unable to keep her and that you suspect she needs medical treatment. You might find one that allows you to foster her while she undergoes medical treatment (as it sounds like you're not in a position to take her on permanently).

My rescue had 6 teeth out. It cost £900. She now needs another dental…
