Name suggestions!

I'm taking my mum to visit some rescue cats tomorrow as her cat sadly passed away a few months ago.
We're trying to think of names and as its halloween / near fireworks night it would be fitting to have a seasonal name.
She's going to visit a particular cat but last time she ended up leaving with a different one so we need female and male names, does anyone have any suggestions?
Will post a picture of the new addition to her house when we get him/her.

Mr Fawkes
Ghostie - if a white cat
Salem
Zombie could be quite cute
Conker - more autumnal feel

AnOldCynic · 31/10/2025 19:18

I’ve only ever changed one cat’s name from a rescue centre because it was bloody awful. The other nine I kept as their given name. Maybe you’ll find the right cat with a right name?

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 31/10/2025 19:20

Guy (Fawkes)

Livinginacatdictatorship · 31/10/2025 19:26

Great suggestions so far!
I had so far thought of Merlin, Magnus and Binx for a male and Tonks, winnie and Sally for a female.
@AnOldCynic the cat my mum is going to see has the same name as her late father and she doesnt want to keep it if she does get that particular cat, its just a light hearted thread....

Guido!

as in guido Fawkes

i think you’ll find they will have a name already

Livinginacatdictatorship · 31/10/2025 21:18

@Doggielovecharlotte yes, the cat my mum has shown interest in does have a name but as mentioned up thread its also the name of her late father, which she wouldnt want to keep using.
I can completely appreciate that that cat may not be a good fit, there may be other cats and the name may not end up be being changed but its just a light hearted thread.

Anyway, front runners are Merlin for a male and a bit of a curve ball away from the original thought but Scout for a female.

Neep - the Scottish word for a turnip, which were traditionally carved here instead of pumpkins. I can remember my dad labouring over them when I was little!

Penny - “penny for the guy”. Again a Scottish thing, guising on Halloween to get money for fireworks before trick or treating was common.

We have a Louie, who I call Louie-Boo, Boo, Boo-Boo, or Lou-Bot.

fenulla · 01/11/2025 06:14

good luck today

Pick some old family names. I bet her grandparents’ generation had some great names. We named our cats after earlier generations in the family and it’s worked so well I’ve named the robot vacuum after my grandfather’s sister.
We have Italian and Irish in the family tree - loads of great names for us.

Livinginacatdictatorship · 01/11/2025 06:36

@learieonthewildmoor the robot vacuum did make me chuckle, but its a very good idea I will suggsst it to her later!
@Judystilldreamsofhorses neep and penny are good ones as well and we're in Scotland so neep is quite fitting.

Everyone's themed names are fab aswell I have been relaying them via message 😊

Eagerly awaiting

Marigold? Ok this is a bit of a skew but it is the 'day of the dead' in Mexico and alters are traditionally put on the alters.

Sticking with Mexico Tamale - traditional food to gift to relatives.

Bit of a change of plan!

We went along to visit malcolm, who while he was lovely my mums affections were stolen by two siamese brother cats. They have their vet check next week but all going well we can collect them next week. I was going to take a picture but i felt it was tempting fate a bit till the vet check was done.
They are currently called Skye and Saladin.
