My poor cat

My little girl has been sneezing a bit for the past couple of months- I thought it was likely an allergy.

last two weeks it ramped up with green snot - off to vets - referred to big vets for investigation thinking it was something like a grass seed in her left nostril.

Today she’s had an MRI and exploration - it’s a tumour 😟

No real treatment options beyond chemotherapy which wouldn’t give her a huge amount of extra time.

She’s fine in herself, eating, galavanting around, having pets. So it’s just palliative care. She’s only 10!

just so sad - she’s officially my eldest daughter’s cat - she got her when her beloved Billy Cat died of a brain tumour- it’s not fair 😟

Oh Bonnie :(
what a beautiful cat xx

TemporaryCatSlave · 29/10/2025 19:23

Oh that's sad, and defintely not fair. Poor you, Bonnie and your daughter. But she's had years of love, cuddles and happiness, as have you, hang on to that.

Frenchfemme · 29/10/2025 20:08

I’m so sorry - Bonnie is a beautiful cat 💔

wanttokickoffbutcant · 29/10/2025 20:56

Lovely girl. How long would she have with and without chemo?

Lovely girl. How long would she have with and without chemo?

Chemo would give her 6 months - without we don’t know (6-8 weeks according to google) but she’s perfectly normal and happy right now just sneezy - so it seems kinder to let her live happily for the rest of the time.

her mum (DD1) is upset but ok just saying it’s not fair- she’s 23 and planning moving to her own place in the next couple of years - she’s always planned to take her with her.

I’m so sorry, @ghostyslovesheets ❤️

CatAsstrophe · 30/10/2025 20:44

Bonnie is so beautiful. I'm really sorry that you've received such awful news 💔

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 30/10/2025 20:46

So sorry, OP - she’s a beauty. We had similar (different flavour of awful) last year with our ten year old girl. We also opted not to do chemo with her on the basis that it would only prolong her life for a short period, and that she would have found it very distressing being hauled back and forth to the specialist vet place. She was my worst heartbreak 🤍

176509user · 30/10/2025 21:03

Aww so sorry 😔 She’s a beautiful cat 💔

Jenpen31 · 30/10/2025 21:09

Yes that’s my feeling as well - it’s odd because in 2020 we went to the same vet specialist and found my Olaf cat had leukaemia, from that we found out Bonnie was a type A cat - she donated blood to him that gave him a little more time and then to local cat rescues when they needed an emergency donor.

Just a bit surreal to be there again with bad news

But she’s happy in herself and eating well so we are just enjoying the time we have x

Thanks for all the lovely messages

Enjoy the time you have left together. 💐

Babyboomtastic · 31/10/2025 00:34

That's really sad.
I'd talk through the chemo option though, as sometimes it's just a tablet for cats, and they tolerate it really well.

BunfightBetty · 31/10/2025 00:49

Oh, that's so sad. I'm so sorry OP, for you, your DD and beautiful Bonnie.

Esgaroth · 31/10/2025 22:09

Poor Bonnie, what terrible news. She's so beautiful.

I completely understand your decision not to drag it out with chemo. Cats don't understand these things. I like to think that if mine was in the same position I'd be strong enough to do what you're doing and to let him go before he had the chance to start feeling bad, so that his last day was a good day. But when you come to it, it must be so so hard. I'm so sorry for you all.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 31/10/2025 22:10

Oh Bonnie 🥺🥺🥺

May her remaining time be happy and full of love.

My love to you and your dd ❤️

Butterflymoth · 31/10/2025 22:15

I’m so sorry, she’s so beautiful, what an awful thing to happen to your beloved girl.
I know it’s awful but try to take comfort in the fact she’s had a wonderful life with you and you’ll do the right thing for her at the end. That’s all we can do even though it’s so hard.

Wolfiefan · 31/10/2025 22:20

Oh OP I’m so so sorry. We had a cat with cancer. We also acted for palliative care. I vaguely remember steroids and a low dose chemo which improved him a bit and gave him a little longer. I agree that aggressive treatment that won’t cure this isn’t in the best interest of your cat.
(It is shit though. I’m so sorry.)

Wolfiefan · 31/10/2025 23:05

Opted. Not acted. Sorry.

Gymnopediegivesmethewillies · 31/10/2025 23:24

She’s a beauty, I hope has as long and healthy life as possible. We really love them don’t we? X

GetupSeanItsDoleDay · 01/11/2025 12:19

She's beautiful 😻Our own cat was diagnosed with a tumour in her jaw in April. She's on steroids and thankfully still with us. Her routine has totally changed as she's very little interest in going out but she's as happy and healthy as can be expected. Only this morning she was looking for me to play chase with her in the garden. Needless to say I was happy to but the pair of us were out of breath after only a few minutes.
