Lost our gorgeous cat this morning

I don’t know why I’m writing this. I suspect because I don’t want to upset the kids by being so upset around them (they’re 3 and 18 months), but our gorgeous loving little cat was hit by a car this morning and she’s gone. My husband saw it happen, and the driver didn’t stop or even slow down.
She was just so full of love. All she ever wanted was a lap to sit on and a human to cuddle in to. The kids loved her. I loved her. How do you get over this? I’m so sad and angry and I just want to turn back time and keep her in this morning. I just want her to come back

I'm so sorry sorry for your loss op.
It hurts so much I understand. I've lost a few to the road over the years 😔

It's very unfair. Much love xxx

I am so very sorry OP. We lost our 1 year old cat suddenly two years ago, and it still makes me sad.

Be kind to yourself x

That's so awful. My heart breaks for you.

JamesWebbSpaceTelescope · 27/09/2025 14:06

I lost my cat yesterday. She went missing on Wednesday and a neighbour brought her home yesterday. No sign of injury and we know she had a dodgy heart and was snoozing in their back garden.

So gutted today. She was such a wonderful little thing, even if she only liked my son and looked on everyone else with distain.

I lost my lovely cat yesterday-she was only 4. We found her curled up in the garden-absolutely no clue as to why happened. It’s such a horrible shock however it happens. Be kind to yourselves everyone.

So sorry. Lost my plushy boy a fortnight ago, the second cat I’ve lost in three months due to cancer. It’s so sad.

So sorry for everyone. The loss is truly huge. It's devastating.

So sorry for you OP. We’ve also lost a couple to the road and it’s heartbreaking especially as the person didn’t even stop in your case. I know what you mean about wanting to turn back time, because with one of ours he was out in the evening when it happened and I still to this day keep asking myself why I didn’t get him in earlier that night. I don’t think there’s anything you can do but grieve at the moment and remember the happy times you had with her. Could you make a little photo board of her to put up in your kitchen or something so you feel she’s with you in some sense? Don’t blame yourself though, I did for a long time, but sometimes cats will just dart into the road for some reason or other and it’s so hard to keep them safe. Sending you strength.

So sorry for you to lose your lovely cat.
Post a picture and tell us about her if it makes you hurt less.

Thisisfinethisisallfine · 27/09/2025 16:40

She was just such a beaut. The only thing that made her happier than cuddling up was sleeping in the sun or chasing butterflies across the garden. I’ve never met a cat that wanted so much human love before. She was so good with the kids. Just so tolerant and loving. Like she knew they were little. She was just wonderful and is going to leave such a space in our lives

Oh this is a very sad thread.
I'm so sorry OP and all of you who have lost your beautiful cats.
Its over 35 years since I lost my gorgeous cat. I'd had her 14 years. We'd moved to a new house with a railway line at the end of the garden and she got run over by a goods train in the night. She survived and dragged herself home minus her two back legs. I've never forgotten the horror of it. I had to take her straight to the vet to end her pain. I'll never forget her - she was so special .

What a stunning cat. Here’s mine. Normally found curled up somewhere.

They all stay with us.

I am so so sorry, that hurts. So sorry your hubby saw it happen too. I really am sad for you and your family. Please take some comfort that you guys had a while together and sounds like you had the best cat ever. Cherish those memories and be kind to yourselves.

Ps, I detest drivers who a, drive to fast and b, don't stop. That's someones family member. x

Springroll89 · 27/09/2025 18:53

I'm so sorry OP. I know how heartbreaking it is as our first family cat went out one evening over 3 years ago at about 7pm. At 9 we got a call saying she was "deceased". I still play that call in my mind. I play the last time I saw her. How she went out of the cat flap. Wish I had done something differently. I hadn't expected to feel the way I did about her. I'd been a dog person before and I couldn't believe how much I fell for her. She was my special little one. We all loved her so much. So gentle and loving. It really brought home to me how fragile life is. It was the first time I had lost someone I loved who wasn't old and ill and really made me think about how precious everyone is. I tried the bereavement line (I can't remember who provides it - I think it's a charity). But it was odd. It was like I was trying to bargain with them to get her back.

In order to fill the house again we adopted 2 cats a week later. I think it was good for us but at the same time I did struggle with them not being her. As time went on I had to positively choose not to cry one day at a time.

At the time I remember thinking that the only non crap part of it was that we knew. She didn't just go missing. Unfortunately one of our cats has now been missing for nearly 6 weeks. And it is so heartbreaking. In some ways it's worse.

The only things I could say are that you gave her a good and loving life. So many cats don't get that. And I felt like I could never love another cat the same way. Sadly my beautiful boy who is now missing I can honestly say I love as much. That doesn't take away how much I loved her though.

Take time to grieve. You loved her and it's a beautiful thing. I'm so sorry for your loss ❤️
