Cat vomiting today; now tinged with blood

Our 13 year old male cat has vomited multiple times inside the house today, and was just sick once more but this time it was tinged red. It’s clearly blood. I’m devastated.

He’s very lethargic and his ears are down. He looks so sad 😞

Has anyone experienced this and what did it turn out to be? We’ll be taking him to the vets as soon as it opens in the morning.

I’d get him to a vet, op. Hope they can help. Poor boy. Fingers crossed they can sort it out

I’m sorry your cat is unwell. It is such a stressful thing. My cat was once very sick - it was eventually like water but I can’t remember blood. It took lots of back and forth to the vet who suspected pancreatitis. When those tests came back clear they suspected a blockage (ie eaten something she shouldn’t) but it actually turned out to be intussusception. This is quite rare in cats. I hope the vet can figure out what’s going on tomorrow x

If he is vomiting blood then you need to go to an emergency vet.

I’m so sorry your cat was so unwell. It must have been so upsetting, especially not knowing what was wrong for so long.

Thank you for your kind words. It’s so upsetting seeing him so morose. X x

Oh gosh sorry to hear this, I would be straight to out of hours personally and have done so for less worrying symptoms. Best to get checked out asap OP, fingers crossed.

This is so upsetting. Please update on how he is.

purplemonkeypancake · 26/09/2025 16:35

How is your cat doing today? Xx

SignatureShortdeads · 29/09/2025 09:45

Thanks so much for the kind messages. The vet believes it to be gastroenteritis, so they gave him an injection. He’s still not himself, but will hopefully start improve.

xx

Poor kitty. Fingers crossed he feels better soon. Gastroenteritis is horrid.

My cat had similar symptoms vomit blood stained etc. Was diagnosed with Gastroenteritis. Got anti sickness injection and was put on a gastrointestinal diet for two weeks. Started to improve after a week and made a full recovery.

Hopefully your puss feels better soon

Thank you so much; so pleased your cat made a full recovery following her bout of this.

I’ll look into the diet, as this is not something the vet mentioned. X

The vet recommended Royal Canine, preferably wet. I gave him a mix of wet and dry.
