Temporary home move - any experiences?

We have two four year old outdoors cats and we need to move out of our home for a couple of months for remedial work.

We'll be staying in a relative's (empty) house, it's a quiet road but there's no cat flap and not really an option to put one in.

Has anyone else done a temporary move with cats?

I'm wondering whether to just keep them indoors for the time we're there. Though it will be a struggle. If we do let them out, will they be OK when we move home again? Thanks for any advice or experiences.

I haven’t done a temporary move but my cats come on holiday with us, they take to the holiday home very quickly one is strutting around within an hour the other takes a day or two, we bought car extender leads to take them out for twenty minutes or so every morning and evening which they love but have been trained since kittens so you may struggle with that. You could always get a big crate and put them in the garden in that for an hour so they can feel the fresh air and sun on their fur. You’ll be fine just ensure you have their beds and toys

My parents moved into my sisters first 6 months while their house was being built. It was fine. He was an outdoor cat. But because of the area they didn’t let him out. He wasn’t bothered.
