Missing kitten

Please help, our 4-month old rescue kitten seems to have just disappeared into thin air.

At about 7pm she was playing on the stairs, zooming around as she is accustomed to doing in the evening but by 7.45, after putting my daughter to bed, I went to look for her and she had vanished.

We have turned the house upside down. At two points we thought we heard a muffled mew but since then, nothing. It would be really unlike her to hide from us, she responds to her name, is super friendly and affectionate and seeks us out. I suspect she is trapped somewhere and am really worried by the fact she is not mewing for help.

The only other thing I can think of is that she slunk outside; my husband went for a walk around the time she went missing so she could have followed him. But if this is the case, why did we hear the two muffled mews?

Has anyone experienced this? She is a large 4-month old, is this still too big to squeeze into some of the strange places I have been reading young kittens like to go?

I’m heartbroken, thinking the worst. She has only been with us about three weeks. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Check all the cupboards and eaves, leave the doors open? I suspect snuck out is most likely explanation? Leave food out?

Hi. Kittens get into some strange places. Ha e you checked everywhere? Washing machine, Tumble dryer, dishwasher, microwave, oven, opened all the doors of every cupboard and drawer?

If you think she has gone out, try calling her at dawn or dusk, the time cats are most active, I'm sure she isnt far away..leave the litter tray outside and some worn clothing for the smell of home...but literally check everywhere...I had to search for my car, could t find her, left all drawers and doors of every piece of furniture open..she wandered down from Upstairs and I still.hsve no idea where she was!

Could she have gone into next door’s garden instead of your’s. Hope you find her.

Thank you so much everyone for responding-we now have her back!

I went to go out and look for her at 6am, called from the doorstep and heard a really loud mew. She was nowhere to be seen but it kept coming-turns out she’d somehow crawled into the eaves of our porch. No idea how but that’s today’s task-as well as finding a joiner…

Just so glad she’s ok!

DH and I still talk about the night our elder cat (🐈‍⬛ now 2.5) went out for the first time and didn’t come home. He was already neutered and vaccinated etc so we knew he’d be okay coming and going in our very quiet area but he just couldn’t he found. He’s usually a velcro cat, adores his daddy, climbs him every two minutes etc. so it was really odd. Like the OP we heard noises and calls from the front garden, he chirps at us a lot! He just wouldn’t come home…. We got so worried, went all round the neighbourhood calling him, his favourite foods out, Dreamies rattled, everything we could think of. We were literally up all night, quietly trying to call, rattle, look for him etc.

We got to 7 am, he just walked through the cat flap as if nothing had happened, ‘smiled’ smugly at us and went to get some food. DH literally never swears, he did that morning 😂

OPim sure you’ll find her hiding somewhere. My younger cat (just turned 2), was found in the cupboard under the sink once and I’m sure the door hadn’t been opened!

Good luck, she’ll be back soon I’m sure 🐈‍⬛🩷🩷🐈‍⬛
