Cat changing character

Hi all

My cat is one of two and he used to be a homebody. He is allowed out during the day then at night I lock him and his brother in. This has never been a problem previously as he would love sleeping on my bed.

As of a few days ago, cat HATES being in at night. He was kicking up such a fuss (meowing at the window, knocking things over, knocking on the flap all night). I've had to relent and leave his flap open all night. He now stays outside all night and day, he's in a shady part of the back of the garden.

He's physically well, eating, drinking and going to the toilet as normal.

I'm thinking it's maybe the hot weather he's enjoying being outside. Just wanted some reassurance really and to see if others have experienced this?

Thanks in advance!

I agree it may be the warm weather he likes.. one of mine hardly ever goes out but seems to live outside at the moment. Bet it’ll change when the nights start getting colder.

Not quite the same, but our last cat was the absolute goodest girl, and always came when called. On hot nights she would come as normal when called in for bed, then defiantly plonk herself under the bush by the patio, and refuse to enter the house.

We don’t have a cat flap so I would leave her bed/water/biscuits in the utility and just lock the middle door (she didn’t use a litter tray but there is one in there too) so she could get shelter if it rained. In the morning she would still be tucked up under her bush!

I like mine to come in by 10 but just lately one has been coming in around 3am through a window as we don't have a cat flap. It's cool outside and they can be active and explore then, it's been too hot for them in the day time really.

Glad to hear mine is not the only one who stubbornly will eat treats at bedtime on the patio then refuse to come inside! I’ll welcome him back when the weather cools!

Yes it's the weather - they love fecking around outside when the nights are warm. The garden scents are stronger too so it's all more enticing. If you're lucky he will enjoy a noisy face-off with a neighbour cat at 3 a.m. Hmm
