Cat laboured breathing

My cat has had episodes of wheezing/coughing. Vet prescribed steroids and antibiotics earlier in week to treat asthma to see if it makes a difference. Since taking these (not always successfully due to cat refusing) I'm sure his breathing, a little laboured previously, has gotten worse. I'm juat wondering if it's the meds making it worse somehow or if its getting worse anyway and the meds aren't helping.

Anyone had any similar experience at all?

He is happy in himself, not distressed etc Due to go back to vets next Friday.

What age is he?

He is 11 years old. Never had one health problem previously.

Have any investigations been done? If not, it may not be asthma and could be a heart problem. I would advise seeing a vet at least tomorrow morning (and possibly tonight, depending on breathing rate and how much effort he has to put into each breath.

Get him in at the emergency vet. Hope he is ok.

I can't afford the £2k plus for a full investigation which won't be fully conclusive anyway. They have done a quick scan and could not detect a heart problem. I spoke with vet earlier who said they wanted him to take the meds for longer.

Okay, hopefully not a heart issue then. I hope things improve soon.
