Cat refusing wet cat food

8 month old male fluffball - Goose.

We got him at 8 weeks (a rescue) and he had been bought up on tesco cat biscuits, he was tiny and underweight so we added some kitten food, chicken and goats milk to his diet.
He ate the kitten food for a day or two and then refused to eat it, but carried on with biscuits, chicken and goats milk.

He’s now a stonkin 4 kg and just been castrated so will now be prone to weight gain. He still refuses wet cat food, but will happily eat chicken and his now decent biscuits.
Im trying to figure out how much chicken he should now have a day so we can weigh it out rather then just chuck it in his bowl ?

Anybody else have a picky eater who looks at you like you just served crap in a bowl if you offer them
wet food ?

He's lovely.

Just give him his biscuits if that's what he likes

TheCurious0range · 31/07/2025 21:05

He's lovely. What wet food are you trying? Mine is spoilt and on high protein grain free, in addition to scrumbles biscuits it smells like meat or fish and not like cat food, he even turns his nose up at dreamies now 🤦‍♂️

I tried literally every single kitten food - wasn’t interested at all - the bugger knows he will still
get served his chicken x

My male cats will only really eat aldi premium wet food or the little tins of liver mousse cat food it's maddening they used to like real chicken too but they went off it around 12 months

Our family Siamese doesn’t eat wet food , we spoke to the vet about it and he said as long as they drink plenty it’s ok to just eat biscuits but make sure the biscuit you feed is a complete food . We still offer wet food daily but she really only eats a tiny bit .

Our boy doesn’t love wet food either. We’ve been through them all and the one he eats most of is Sheba, so he gets that and RC biscuits. Our vet is happy with that regime, and he does actually drink. Our previous cat I don’t think I ever saw drink water although she had access to it always, occasionally she would have a lap at the birdbath. Funnily enough though, I picked up a little tin of Lily’s Kitchen pate on a whim yesterday and he wolfed that down, so I might look into more mousse/pate type textured things. He’s two and a half and had been a stray kitten living in a lady’s shed, so I don’t know why he’s such a fussy-face when he was presumably dining on spiders and mice!

We currently have an M&S bag for life packed full of his cast offs sitting in the vestibule that CP - where he came from - are going to collect. I’m sure their kitties will appreciate the boxes of Untamed etc.

(Untamed actually reached out to me on Instagram and offered to gift us some boxes. I didn’t have the heart to say he hates their food!)

We have 5 cats and while 4 are lined up ready for their wet food at 5pm every day and come running at the slightest whiff of tuna or a cooked chicken, the 5th has no interest what so ever. Only eats dry cat food but does have pica and will tuck into any random stringy item she finds - hair ties, ribbon, wool, the thin straps of a brand new dance leotard! We’ve learnt not to leave anything lying around!

My little female cat rarely eats wet cat food but her big fluffy brother loves it and eats 2 sachets at once. She prefers the Purina biscuits. She likes a bit of cooked chicken though.
