What can I do

I took on a stray cat from the streets a about 4 years ago.

She is very attached to me, enjoys a good sleep on my lap and in her bed at night.( Hates being out all night)

But she is scared of everything,
door bell, post coming through letter box, wind, noises and all people.

But if any strange cats are nearby and move she will usuarly chase them off even if they are bigger than her.

But what is driving me crazy is when family vist or i have GG kids over for the night / wk end she is gone for days.

She ends up near the front door at night so i feed her but runs if i try and catch her.

When visitors have gone or kids are asleep upstairs I open door leave all lights on and wait for her to realise its safe and come in, i could be murdered in middle of night lol.

I had kids Sat from 12 she run off breifly saw her in garden put food out she ran off, didnt see her untill late sunday night / monday, all was asleep but still would not come in, kids went home early Monday am for school, she wouldn't come in untill gone 2 o'clock Monday / Tues.

I can't go on holiday, put her in a cattery or get family or someone to come and feed her due to this behaviour as i would worry if i was away.

Would any medication help or is this is how she is and will continue to be due to living on the streets.

Love her to bits but I feel trapped, my other cat will at least come in and eat and stay in at night if visitors are here.

Can you set up a safe place outside for her? A kitty house of some sort?

You could try Zylkene, comes in capsules you break open & scatter on wet food. Doesn't work with all cats, but does with some. Also Feliway or similar, diffusers in the main rooms she occupies plus spray on her bed, your bed etc.

Plus if possible a cat flap so she can come in when she wants - you can get micro chip operated ones that can be programmed so she can get in, no other cat can get in, and if you set it to in only once she's in she can't get out again.

@sashh She / they has a 2 safe and shelters in the garden and also when i cover my garden settee i put a cat bed and blanket on it which she uses if ur rains or winter etc
She also goes under the settee to get away from.
But when people are here she goes off and won't even come in the back at all.
