New cat - how concerned should I be?

Picked up a 1 year old rescue cat yesterday, and while she's generally confident (hides away if startled but very friendly and affectionate), she's only peed once since she arrived. She's eating and drinking, and we've had 2 poops in the tray, but how concerned should I be about the lack of pee?

Some cats hardly seem to pee at all, mine doesn’t! As long as there’s some poops and use of the litter tray I wouldn’t be concerned at this point especially if there’s eating and drinking. That’s a really good settling in sign.

Oops, forgot to pay my cat tax

Are you certain they arnt going elsewhere?

What are you feeding wet or dry?
Are they drinking?

I don’t think she’s going anywhere else. Eating both wet and dry, and I’ve seen her drink a couple of times.

Blimey, she's absolutely beautiful!!😻

WeAreNumpties · 23/05/2025 21:52

She's gorgeous, is she part Ragdoll? I wouldn't worry too much, if she's been using the tray it all sounds good.

Cats Protection described her as ‘ragdoll type’ - I feel like I’ve won the rescue lottery!

Unless she seems distressed it's probably just how she is. Mine only goes once or twice in 24 hrs. My previous cat once held it for over 24hrs when he had to be kept in because he was ill, and was used to going to the toilet outside! If she is uncomfortable with urinating she'd more likely be in and out of the box really often.

And we had overnight pee action! Never thought I’d be so happy to have to clean a litter tray at 7am!

She’s gorgeous! She looks like she’s got some Birmin in her to me.

What a gorgeous cat. Cats don't usually wee much. Probably once a day.

Catwalking · 25/05/2025 16:48

Prob no help at all, (requires bath room door being left open) we had 1 cat yrs ago who’d pee directly into bath plug hole! Obvs a bit diff to find those!
Beautiful kitty

purser25 · 25/05/2025 16:59

Our cat will wee over the plug hole. On one occasion he did a poo in the bath then spent ages trying to to bury it. At list it is easier to clean than on a carpet or similar.

amooseymoomum · 25/05/2025 17:04

cats do not tend to pee a lot so do not panic yet! she is so gorgeous

Toddlerteaplease · 25/05/2025 20:25

Penelope didn’t pee for 36 hours after she arrived!

thecatneuterer · 25/05/2025 20:49

I'm with a rescue. Cats can go four days without peeing, pooing, eating or drinking in a new home. It's not unusual or anything to worry about.

ChompandaGrazia · 25/05/2025 20:52

She is beautiful. Glad she’s had a wee now.

LoveTheLake525 · 25/05/2025 21:06

She's beautiful!!

Have you hrot her original name or given her a new one?

Do you know how she came to be in the rescue??
