Cat missing

Our nearly 4 year old ex rescue was last seen yesterday morning at about 7am. She is obsessed with food so her missing dinner was unusual but she’s never been away this long.

We’ve walked around the area both in the evening last night, this morning and this afternoon. I’ve added photographs to the local Facebook group and have asked friends to send on their road WhatsApp groups.

What else should we be doing? I’ve never had a cat missing before.

Knock on your neighbours’ front doors and ask them to check their sheds, garages and outhouses. Even better if they will let you check them but I appreciate not everyone would allow that.

Go out in calling in the early hours when it is quiet and you are more likely to hear a response.

Hope she’s home soon.

you need to go out the dead of night and listen really carefully, I only knew my cat was in the next garden because of a tiny meow I heard!

If she uses a litter tray put that out in the garden?

Definitely this.
I opened my garage door one morning and my neighbour's cat shot out!
I had no idea he was in there nor that they'd been searching for him.
Good luck, OP, they are a worry!

Got a call and she’s been found. She went back to our old house. I did go past there twice but sounds like she had only just got there. She’s very weak and her fur is roughed up so may get her to the vet tomorrow.

I hope she is ok. “Very weak” and “roughed up fur” sounds worrying.

Well she wouldn’t have eaten for the best part of 2 days. Her fur is matted which is a bit strange. Think we will have to take a trip to the vet.

Glad she was found! How far away is the old house?! Did you just move? I assume you did the locking her in in the new home for a couple of weeks before letting her out thing?

SiberianHusky · 22/05/2025 08:03

Sorry for so many questions it's just that I have a cat and planning on moving house and settling my cat in the new property is on my mind obviously as we had previously lost a cat sadly never found her.

We moved about a 5 mins walk away but that is a human taking a short cut. I’m not sure which route she will have taken but I’d imagine it took her a good half an hour or so assuming she ended up going through gardens. I know that doesn’t sound far but it definitely would be for her.

We moved nearly 4 months ago now and yes we kept her locked in. I assume at some point she sensed some familiarity in the area and then ended up at our neighbours place.

Bizarrely, when we lived there, we had a stray in our garden for years (long story) and when we finally managed to reunite her with her owners (she’d been lost for 4 years) we found out they live on the same road we do now. I wonder if there’s an odd cat route that goes between here and there.
