Four weeks ago today I lost my beloved 16 year old tuxy. She had a hyperthyroid and possible kidney issues. After 8 days on medication she started to go down hill. She collapsed and couldn’t move and was twitching. I Was told this was seizures. I rushed to the vet and I was told hyperthyroid causes extra blood to run through the kidneys masking issues and when the medication started to work her body couldn’t get rid of the toxins. She was PTS within 5 mins of seeing the vet.
I have collected her ashes on Easter Monday. We are totally heartbroken to lose her..

we also have a 15 year old boy cat. At first I thought he was just missing his friend. But very quickly I noticed his reduced eating and weight loss. I called the vet and they moved his appointment meant for next week to an hours time. At the vets he had a feel of his stomach and said he felt a mass on his kidney. Bloods showed his kidneys have issues so he had a scan which showed a 3 cm tumour. The vet is as sure as he can be, without invasive tests (which he advised against as kidneys are vascular and the procedure can cause severe bleeding) that it is renal lymphoma. For now he is on palliative care. But it is a day by day hour by hour situation. The second I see any sign of suffering I will be straight to,the vet.

to say we are heartbroken is an understatement. Within 4 weeks we have lost our girl and told our boy is terminal and we could lose him at any time. We have had both since kittens and it’s hard to remember life before my tiny little tuxy arrived almost 16 years ago.

I don’t know what I’m looking for, I’m just totally devastated. My heart hurts so much. I didn’t think I would be in this situation again so soon.

hand hold from me. Just be with him, he’ll know xx

Aww that’s rubbish - sending you big hugs. Enjoy spending time making your boy as comfortable as possible and spoil him rotten.

Mumofteensandcats · 13/05/2025 19:47

So sorry to hear the news of both your poor cats especially being so close together.

I hope the next few days go as well as they can for you all. Sending love xx

Really sorry to hear this. I lost my cat very quickly a couple of years ago. She went off her food and I ended up taking her to the vets only to find out she was in kidney failure and they put her to sleep there and then so I completely understand your position and feel for you and just offer my sympathies as I know nothing anyone can say will help the grief. I still think about my cat all the time but I remember all the joy she brought me and try and remember that she had a good life with me. I’m sure you cats have had a wonderful one with you too

So sorry to hear this - pets are magic but also a one way ticket to heartbreak.

Snickersnack1 · 13/05/2025 20:26

What a terribly sad heart-wrenching situation, I’m so sorry. Your dear pets couldn’t have asked for a more loving home, and you’re loving them to the end. You’re doing all that you can for them. I’m so sorry it is so painful for you. I am sure your suffering is greater than your dear cats’ xxx

Thank you everyone for the kind messages 💕💕

he was given injections of steroids and anti sickness yesterday and just had his first dose of oral medications. Mixed it with lik-e-liks and he ate them. Will try him with some dinner at 10pm so fingers crossed he eats something.

tomorrow is another day, another day full of love. But another day closer 😢😢
